Eye check up....
Would suggest you get an eye check up if you had not done one recently. And get a specialist that checks eye ball pressure and field vision test.
Glaucoma runs in the family and my mother had it before she passed. For the past year I have been taking drops in the left eye only as I have some optic nerve damage and glaucoma in that eye only. After a year of taking drops the eyeball pressure is down and the glaucoma is arrested(however there is no reversal of glaucoma). Glaucoma onset is like high blood pressure. Can sneak up on you if you are not proactive. Hope this helps somebody. ![]() |

My last checkup showed I had developing cataracts. When told that, I said "What?" The optometrist told me not to worry because it was just something normal for old age. That made me feel so much better. Thank goodness my internal pressure is OK so far.

I found out I have age related macular degeneration in both eyes at my last checkup.
Getting old sucks, but it still beats the alternative.

Lucky! May it continue to work for you. A retina specialist waiting room...not the place to find any hot chicks.

After cataract surgery in both eyes and a torn retina in one eye, I see an eye doctor every year. I have a retina doc I see annually as well.
Aging is cruel. As a friend of mine told me recently, when you retire, the doctor phone numbers begin to overtake the phone numbers of friends.

I go to an eye surgeon a real Ophthalmologist, not an optician.
He checks the eye pressure, looks at my retina, and cornea. My dad and his mother both had detached retina issues. I want to avoid that. Going to an optician is OK if all you want is a prescription for your vision. If you want a real eye evaluation, go to a real medical professional, not just some dude in a white coat.

I also am taking the eyedrops and see a glaucoma specialist a couple of times a year, trying to keep the pressures lower. 72 years old but relatively good shape for the shape I'm in. Eyedrops are the only med I take so I feel good about that. I'm told the cataract thing is not if, but when, for everyone. Kinda looking forward to it one day. Apparently there's a cheap version and an expensive version and quite often you don't need glasses after the later. HATE the field of vision test...little blinking lights and you push the button when you think you see one...after a couple of minutes I feel like I'm arbitrarily just pushing the button!

My eye doctor is whom ever is working the emergency room on the days i show up.
I just mentioned to my wife yesterday that i need to get them checked by a real eye doctor. It's been at least 8 years since my last check up. May be closer to 10. My current glasses are scratched and pitted really bad plus i've broken off both arms over the years and have soldered them back together several times. Can't fold them up any more.

G'day!
|
Thanks for the reminder/head's up, Guy.
Very timely because lately my eyes have been watering like crazy and my vision doesn't seem as sharp as it used to be. I'm kinda due for an exam anyway. My last one was Dec. 2017. Also, just got my Humana medicare plan so good opportunity to give it a whirl and see what happens. I have a great optometrist. She's of Greek heritage and is very thorough.

I've been going yearly to the same guy. He takes photos of the insides of my eyes and does a whole lot of looking into them. He can see the whole progression of changes as my eyes age and project what I'm in for in the future. Today he pointed out some vitreous separation and told me how that is good because it didn't tear my retina when it pulled away. I guess the vitreous shrinks as you age and can pull the retina off as it shrinks if it sticks to it.

I just had this done and got news that my eye health was excellent.
I did not realize my distance vision was going. My ose up vision went a few years ago. It was bad enough to need correction this time. When I walked outside with my new prescription sun glasses I was amazed by all the detail I had grown used to not seeing. It had been 3 years since me last checkup, I am going yearly now. I go once per year. This is the first year in several I needed a new prescription. With glasses I have 20-20. Even without glasses I have really good vision. The real small stuff close up requires glasses.
My brother in law grew up in the 60s. He was struggling in school and they finally did a vision test. He had terrible vision. With glasses he was stunned to walk outside and notice trees are not just green blobs, they have individual leaves.

Went today. 20/40 in both eyes. Getting new glasses since the old ones are scratched to hell. Looks like I have the onset of glaucoma. Minor at this point and go back in 6 months for a follow up.
There was one test where I was to stare at her ear while she held up a varying number of fingers. I told her I knew the reason for that test. While she distracted me with her fingers on one hand she emptied my wallet with the other. Lol |

Prevention is preferable. My bro in law elected to have an operation for glaucoma and apparently has had good results. Cheers, Guy |

My friend went for a routine checkup to his primary care physician and he was checking everything off the list and told him since he hadn't had his eyes checked in a long time to get an eye checkup. He had no symptoms but the short story is the first guy saw something, sent him to a specialist who sent him to Atlanta to Emery. He had a melanoma on the inside of his eyeball. They wound up putting a radioactive disc in there for 10 days ( he had to wear lead eye patch for the ten days). The tumor has shrunk but now he has to get checked regularly to make sure it hasn't spread. The bottom line is, even if you don't have eye problems a check up once in a while is a good idea.

Timely post. I just called to make an appointment.
I’m finding it difficult to judge what lane a car is in, as I cross over two lanes of traffic or how close they are at night. Of course, there are no street lights and my glasses make the car headlights looks like star bursts. |

Got retinopathy. It us where the blood vessels in the retina swell and start leaking. When they swell your vision gets worse. When they leak you get floaters. After leaking the leaks cause more blood vessels to grow which covers rod and cone cells and you get less resolution (macular degeneration). Also the vitreous fluid, which is more of a gel membrane pulls your retina away from the back of your eye (detached retina). All this activity causes cataracts to form too.
Got into a program testubg drugs for shots in the eyeball the stop the vessel swelling and stop them from leaking. Got paid $25 shot instead of it costing $2000. Also got lasered over 3000 places in each eye to stop the bleeding and basically spot weld the retina to the back of the eye. Have had surgery to clean the blood out of the vitreous fluid, twice on one eye once on the other. And have had cararact surgery in both eyes. Have not had drugs since last April. Vision got to 20/120 before it started getting better. Now it is 20/20. Friends sister had a similar problem and they did the cataract surgery too soon after removing vitreous fluid and she is now blind. Was told when I started the shot in the eye program there was a 1 in 1000 chance I would go blind. The prognosis is to go blind anyway so I signed up. Now go in every 6 months to be evaluated to see if there is any vessel swelling or leaking. So far have had none for 8 months. It was really scary because was 20/30 when started treatment and it went up to 20/120 over the next year an a half before it started getting better. Started after complaining to eye doc that signs an billboards on the highway were getting difficult to read the fine print. Then he sent me to a retinal speciallist.
