Murphy on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
What'd you think?
I thought it was a great episode. Lots of logrolling between Seinfeld and Murphy, definitely a mutual admiration club there, but it was nice to see him just talking and not acting for the camera. Cool car this time and (side note) I was surprised that EM didn't quite know what it was, because I remember reading in AutoWeek years ago that he was one of the first buyers of the 4V Porsche 928 ...perhaps he's not a car guy and just bought what his friends told him was cool? He did seem pretty mellow. I kind of felt like maybe he thinks the magic has left him, and he alluded to it while describing stand up as a muscle that needs to be exercised.. The stories about Cosby and Pryor were sort of sad. Like someone was trying to take over their place in comic history, and their egos couldn't handle it, but the fact was I and many others like me busted many a gut to all three of those guys and still do occasionally. Likewise to Cheech and Chong and George Carlin and Steve Martin. Plenty of room on that train because people really do like to laugh and all of those guys knew how to make our sides split. ![]()

That's okay...no need to provide a link. Just the pic will do.

I enjoy the show though Jerry sometimes seems out of touch with common folk.
Glad to see the new season, the Jamie Fox episode was a good one.

Janie Fox was good. Martin Short was good. The cars this season where pretty lame. I’m always amazed that most of these guests are really not interested in cars or knowledgeable. I would prefer a show where Jerry and jay Leno drive a different car every episode and then discuss the car :-) but as long as these keep coming I’ll keep watching

IMHO, that was the best episode of the new season...I thought most were just so-so and some weren't any good at all. After 10 seasons, I think this concept may have finally run outa gas.
I looked forward to the show with Eddie Murphy but was let down after seeing it. Other than his comments about Pryor and Cosby, I thought the episode was kinda flat. With all the great stuff that he's done, I thought there was a lot more that they could've gotten into instead of wasting so much time on the Jerry and Eddie mutual admiration society. Was also disappointed to learn that Eddie seems to have just stepped back from the scene now and prefers to just hang out at home and do nothing. Last year, I attended two forums during Monterey Classic Car Week...one with Jerry and one with Leno. After doing his thing, Leno stepped off the stage, posed for photos, signed autographs and BS'd with the audience. Jerry, on the other hand, had two goons push everyone out of the way and escort him from the venue. Wouldn't talk to anyone or sign anything...not even for the several kids who tried approaching him. That's pretty cool. Did he pay list, or try to get a deal?

I have no memory of what he paid and may not have even known at the time. The whole thing was arranged between his business managers and the management at the dealer. I barely met him. I remember that he was really pissed-off when we explained that he had to come to the dealer because the law in CA. is that cars have to be delivered there. He wanted it just delivered to the set.
When he showed up to sign the papers, my boss asked him if he wanted to drive it and he said, “fuch no.” Real car guy, he probably didn’t know how to drive. ![]() The only reason I got the call is because I had just sold a car to Tony Scott and they were shooting BH Cop 2 together. Tony was the diametric opposite, nicest guy who ever tied on a pair of shoes and a total speed freak in a car or bike. He became a good friend, invited me to the set, etc. I knew him for years but hadn’t seen him in some time when he died.

Great!
I've always liked Eddie. The original 48 hrs was brilliant for its time. (1982)

He had a 356 in one of them didn’t he ?
Vague recollection of it gathering dust while he was in prison or something ? |

The 356 was in both movies but you saw a lot more of it in the first.

I enjoyed it too. I think the best CICGC episodes are when you see a real connection between Seinfeld and the guest like there was with Murphy. It seemed like a bond not from a real friendship but from mutual admiration from two guys who did the same job at the same high level in the same era.
One of my few brushes with celebrity was in an LA club in 1990. It was one of those clubs where you waited outside for too long to get in unless you were famous or a smoking hot babe. I felt a shove from behind me and turned around ready for fight when I realized it was two big body guards pushing the way through for Eddy Murphy and Arsenio Hall. So I cooled off quick and just smiled at them as they brushed by.

That was an Intermeccanica replica on a VW pan...not an actual 356 Speedster.
