Credit card fraud and package delivered to my house

Last week I noticed a couple of fraudulent charges on my credit card so I reported them and cancelled the card. Monday a package arrived from one of the purchases. My wife opened the door and got the package when the UPS guy knocked as he set it on the porch. That night I looked at the package and realized it was the fraud purchase. It had someone else's name and our address. Who knows what their plan was? Steal it off the porch after UPS left? Knock on our door and take it?

I notified the police but haven't heard back. I also contacted my bank to let them know I got the package and they told me the vendor was notified it was fraud and that they will not be paid. Then I called the vendor and told them I'll send the item back (ARP bolt kit for a diesel engine I'm assuming from the box) after the police tell me they're done AND when I asked they gave me the fraudster's email and phone number! So if the police don't do anything... I am a little concerned that the criminal knows my name and address vs the less info I have on them.

That is a little creepy.
Be sure to update the police as to what info you gotten.

BTW, Hopefully you have frozen your credit report at all 3 bureaus. You may also want to pull your credit report to see if anything else has been hacked.

It could also be as simple as the fraudster forgot to change the delivery address at checkout.

Was the package from Amazon?

My wife had someone somehow charge thing to her car on her account but a different delivery address. The card stopped the purchase, and Amazon support had her set up a new account password. Nothing ever got shipped. Nothing ever got paid, so the fraud was stopped.

It was specialty diesel performance supplier. I would have thought they'd be more friendly when I told them I'd return the stolen item. Maybe I should have told them I was car guy.

Sure, you can get fraudulent packages delivered and I can't get USPS to deliver legit ones.

Do keep us updated if anything comes of it. Seems pretty easy enough for the police in this case to investigate some.

That info is already out there on a thousand different databases..also very easy to look up.
Modern times.

It's interesting that they would put a different name on it.
Hopefully they even used their own

I'd get a new card # ASAP and cancel the old one.

Yep. They still publish this thick book called a phone book. It lists your name address and phone number.

Google Earth Street view and Bing both have a picture of the front of your house, and the address. It is pretty easy to look up who owns the house on county public data sites. You can look up the appraised value, and the amount to taxes they paid last year. Even a floor plan of the house.

I had this happen several years ago, just happened to be home that day as the packages started arriving- very weird assortment including colon cleanse and sex toys! I think my card was compromised at the haircut place as they tried to buy some hair care products but the company flagged it as fraud they also used my card to run credit reports on several other people.

I wasn’t thinking and should have done a stakeout and seen who showed up. Police don’t have time to track these losers down and it looks like a victim less crime because the vendors who got swindled or card company covers the losses not the consumer; of course we all pay in higher prices.
