Bubble still going strong

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

Special cars are still commanding a serious premium. I have to admit I'm a little surprised by the length of the bubble.

BAT bubble!

When is my 84 going to sell for 300k? I mean the normal 32k mile 70s Datsun z can fetch that...

That was a Gen 1 240z with super low miles, but yeah..$300k is crazy. Probably going to a collection to never be seen again.

But a Guards Red 911 with a 915, even with only 42k mile for $60k seems "bubbly" - to Shaun's point.

I'm going through last few days of email now.

Another one. Low "high" miles. special color. Great shape. But over $10K more than I would have guessed given the mileage.

Granite Green 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

Damn. A nice Carrera but nothing remarkable about that particular car. Crazy money for what it is.

Hush you!

I want the price to stay high, and keep going up. I don't intend to sell my 85 Carrera until I can't get in and out of it. But I want the price to keep going up. Then I will get the Taycan SUV that will be out by then, with total autonomous driving in normal mode or in the curvy roads I can put in in Walter Röhrl mode and have a real thrill.

Guards red ... is it en vogue again?

That's crazy money - 964 / 993 territory or new mid engine corvette!

Noooooo! I have to admit that I'm perpetually hoping prices will eventually decline so I can get a Carrera or SC to just drive and enjoy. But once they get much past $30k the cost/benefit math starts to get really fuzzy. Like Shaun, I really expected things to normalize a little more by now.

Most cliche Porsche color ever. Especially in the 1980s.

Dude, you need to look at 964 and 993 prices. That money barely buys you a tiptronic 964 cab.

This was about $20k high for this car, IMO. And that is factoring in the run-up in prices...it was a $17k car a few short years ago.

The '86 was about $15k high but that's BaT, these days.

Granite Green is rare as hen's teeth. It is worth a 5-figure premium.
The red car has unicorn miles. Anything under 50k miles will bring a 50-100% premium.

I was talking about the Guards Red one. And I would hesitate to pay a premium for low mileage on any car that can be rolled back with a cordless drill. Hope it’s well documented.

Basically every old car should be considered TMU unless they have awesome documentation.

I suppose that's one benefit of smogging every two years here in Kalifornia. Makes it more challenging to cheat on mileage. I just bought a car with a broken odo. But I had faith that this was a recent event and that the mileage on the odo was fairly accurate because I knew the seller/family well, and I could see the progression of miles (or lack thereof in this case) through smog records.

Those would be the correct, original headlights for a 1986 U.S. market 911. 1987 was the first year for the H5s on the Granite Green car.

The owner of German Auto is a friend of mine and I know he would not roll an odometer back. Lots of cars are low mileage in Hawaii because we have nowhere to go. lol My 77 930 is sitting at 39xxx miles as I don't even drive it. I think I put on 500 miles on it since I bought it 8 years ago. That is pretty much the same for all my other Porsches. I think the one I drove he most was the Boxster, and I put on 8k over 4 years, and it was a semi daily driver.

sorry to say, but that's sad.
