Weird message from Amazon

I had ordered an LED head for my recoiling drop light and received this message a day before it was supposed to arrive:

"Unfortunately, a problem occurred during shipping and we had to cancel your delivery. The package is being returned, and we will issue a refund within 3 - 5 business days after the return is processed. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience."

No explanation, no nothing! I'm wondering if I should try to reorder or move on. I've ordered a lot of stuff from Amazon and never ran into this situation.

Might be one of the vendors that were 86'd.

I've had it happen a few times. I believe I just reordered and everything was fine.

More concerning is when Amazon claims they delivered a package when they didn't. There was a process to resolve that issue, but I remember it being more complicated/hard to find a solution on the website. But the website is always changing, so that may not be as hard to resolve these days...

Good luck.

Same here...with the same message. The last time it happened, I called them to ask why.
Lady said it's usually because of 'wrong address' when delivered from the vendor instead of Amazon warehouse.

I eventually got a message like that the only time I ever ordered something from Amazon that ostensibly was to be delivered in two days, two weeks to sort it out. Fairly certain they never had the item in question.

I surmise it was to get an interest free loan for a few weeks.

I got a similar message for a product I ordered. The Amazon message said the package was undeliverable as addressed, and it was returned, and my credit card was refunded fully. It is the exact same address on my account that has had lots of stuff delivered.

I ordered the same product again, this time it was 10 cents more money. It arrived and is what I wanted. The day is was to arrive was a cold drizzly day, with a few snow flakes and I figure either the driver did not want to get out of the truck and come up to my porch, or the vendor screwed up and did not have it in stock. It did not matter since it was easy to reorder. I am sure Amazon knows what happened. I bet Bezos will go broke because of it!

I got that message from a vendor I've ordered the same item from several times. I was immediately refunded. I called the vendor and they admitted that they were "out of stock". I checked and found they had removed it from Amazon. I had them verify I would get the same price when it became available. Sure enough, when it became available again it was at a higher price but they honored the promise so all was good.

Man..... you guys sure like to look for a conspiracy when the most likely explanation would just make far too much sense.

That blurb is generated by the system when the order can’t be delivered, most likely because the label got damage and the carrier couldn’t deliver it, or any one of a few hundred other fairly common delivery issues.

Just reorder it and I’m sure you’ll get the next one no problem

Some of the other things mentioned here could be issues with different 3rd party sellers, when you click “buy” the system routes the order to whichever seller is “winning” the buybox at that specific time. As inventory and other things change different sellers will be selling that same item so you will see the price fluctuate

The worst I had was a package was missing an item. (It was on the inventory but not in the box.) I called to complain. They sent me a replacement and told me to ignore the e-mails telling me to return the first item as they had to process it as an exchange. One month later they charged my credit card for the second item (the one I actually got). So it seems my options were either to pay for it once and receive it 0 times, or pay for it twice to get one. I called to complain (again), they refunded me the purchase price. They don't seem to have a process for "item not in box".

Curious, are these either sold by Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon, or are these purchases from third party sellers that list on the site?

Not uncommon.....We got that message and got our $400 Shark Robot vacuum cleaner the next day after the auto refund came in. No idea how they can afford to give stuff away.

Right on. I've had UPS drivers come up and say I think it's broken inside so if I send it back it will be a lot less hassle for you. Amazon is just a little more obscure.

Not so much a conspiracy theory as an excellent way to make money.

You get an interest free loan of $50 for a month from one person, big deal. You get an interest free loan of $50 from 100,000, or a million people, you are talking about a decent chunk of change. Why would you not do it?

Is their inventory system so bad that they don't know it is out of stock, back ordered or whatever?

I just want to point out that this is all still better than a weird massage from an Amazonian.

I'd take a weird massage from the one on the right.

You guys don't realize that Amazon is trying to be as big as UPS. They're also trying to go into the grocery business as well as grocery delivery.

All of these problems stem from them not having the bugs worked out logistically. They probably DID lose your package. At that point, refund the money and say the delivery was cancelled. That's also why you received the vacuum after the refund. When and if they ever give trying to be a logistics company and go back to retail, things will be smoother. Meanwhile, buying from them is a mixed bag.

that's what the banks do too. When you make a credit card deposit/pay off credit card, and it doesn't show up for 24 or 48 hours, that's the bank getting free use of money. Every day free use of hundreds and hundreds of millions.

Simply, ahh, no.

Sounds nice and plausible but there are millions of transactions flowing in both directions and some systems are set to batch once a day because it’s more efficient to process so all you need is two batched systems in a chain to get a 48 hour window.
