Anyone here use Grubhub?

My older brother mentioned this as a resource for our elderly mother who no longer drives. She's capable of cooking herself and I bring her provisions weekly but I know she likes having meals prepared for her from time to time and also stuff that is not practical to make at home.

Looks like (according to the GH website) we have plenty of participating restaurants.

Thanks for any input!

I use it all the time when I travel. Painless interface and depending on her location good to great variety.

There are other apps that may work better in your area.

She can also grocery shop from home and have it delivered. Location dependent of course.

Best to her...

I have never used it, but always wondered how they managed to get food to the right point before it gets cold.
In the March issue of Car and Driver, one of the columnists signs on as a driver for GH, Door Dash, Uber Eats and Roadie. Interesting how competitive it is to get the chance to deliver the food.
He would get calls during the night..which he had to yes or no immediately. On a good day, he would net out at about $15/hr after gas charges.

Isn't that the one where the delivery driver dipped his nuts in the food? Lol

For your application it sounds perfect. I know the times can be 45+ mins. Still cheaper than assisted living though

Baz you could also check your local page on FB to see if there’s anyone doing food prep.

I’m sure it would be cheaper, healthier and with this virus, I’m real sketchy on fast food places.

Simple phone call to the restaurant is cheaper.

Thanks for the replies so far - mucho appreciated!

Will see her tomorrow and have a discussion about this.

I think for her right now it'd be less confusing to just call in to the places that do normal (not through GH) deliveries. Pretty good selection of those. She's done that already with the local Chinese place.

The delivery fees can really stack up on a lot of these delivery apps. Also worth keeping in mind that some food just doesn't travel well. I'd probably give a +1 for using restaurants with their own delivery drivers.
That said, postmates works pretty well for delivering groceries.

We do not offer food from our businesses on any of these platforms for multiple reasons:

* Typical price increase of 25%
* Delivery charge added to already misleading pricing
* Unreliable drivers; sometimes extremely rude in the restaurant, then visiting customers to represent your business and livelihood. We've had drivers threaten our staff--from both Uber Eats and the now-defunct Amazon Food....never again. We fired them immediately as it simply wasnt worth the potential bad impact.

With most of these guys--you can set the menu for yourself and limit it to items that will travel well.
It does make sense on occasion--if you simply cannot get out of the house and need ready-to-eat foods. Otherwise--just go pick it up, or subscribe to one of the myriad home meal replacement companies such as Hello Fresh, and cook it yourself.

In our area, Uber Eats is a better choice. I don't use them often but I think it's a great solution for your mom.

I’ve used Grubhub in Queens with no issues. Usually when i don’t have time to leave my desk.

Haven’t run into exorbitant delivery fees but delivery minimum when ordering for one are an obstacle. I’ll usually order something that will reheat well for leftovers or order extra chips or drinks that I’ll have another time.
