Dishwasher Question

Once more into the brain trust!

In our last house we went through some dishwashers. The GE top end we found cheap was JUNK and I cannot remember the one the GE replaced but it was horrible, but better than the GE.

We ended up with a scratch and dent Frigidaire Gallery with a strange little blue circle for the bottom sprayer. It did a great job cleaning, was quiet, efficient, loved it for the most part. Did not like how it loaded.

So we are in a new house and need a dishwasher. I am again looking at the Frigidaire Gallery but for slightly more there is Bosch and Miele. These are all scratch and dent models or last year's models. Sorry, do not have model numbers as there are several for each brand.

My Cousin's swear by Miele. My In-Laws have a Bosch which works wonderfully. Or for about $150.00 less (really nothing in this range) is the beast I have used before.

I am leaning to the Miele, as is the Wife, but we were wondering about other real-life experience in this matter. Thoughts?

Bosch.... by far the best, quietest DW we've owned. I also liked the fact that it did not have the dry function via a heating coil.

Current house has a Kitchenaid which is junk..

We don't have a built-in dishwasher as it's an old kitchen without the room for it. We've had two portables in the 35 yrs we've been here, both Maytags. Too bad they don't make them any more, I'd buy another in a heart beat.

Had a portable in our first home. It was something made for Kenmore. Had a repairman out to look at another dishwasher 15 years later, he saw it in the corner and spent some time looking it over and announced we should NEVER let it go!

My Sister-In-Law uses it now. 25 years old or so and still going strong. Never had a repair, never leaked, cleans beautifully, noisy as all get out.

I just replaced my there year-old POS KitchenAid with a Bosch and love it. No heating coil, soft water feature, super quiet. It's been almost a year with flawless operation and the dishes have zero hard water build up.

We have an Asko dishwasher that we purchased in 1993 and still running strong--and quiet! Cannot really hear it when standing right next to the machine while running. Since we bought it, the company has been bought out by another, and I don't know the resultant quality or service, but if I was to buy a new dishwasher, I'd likely go with Miele.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with either, but check out some things about each model that may play a part in your decision, like the following:

1. Is the tub stainless steel?
2. Are the rotating arms stainless steel?
3. Are the dish racks epoxy coated steel, graphite on steel, or plastic and nylon?
4. Are the racks easy to load with a practical layout?

Also, you might check to see if either the Bosch or Miele model you are considering has been discontinued. Bosch has a much larger distribution system and repairs/parts are relatively easy to get. Miele will probably be a bit pricier, but the parts availability should not be an issue. Servicemen for Bosch will likely also service Miele.

We have the Bosch and we like the quiet cleaning it does. It is NOT fast by any definition. Quiet and energy efficient yes, but not fast like the old dishwasher we had. Think hours not minutes.

You did not put samsung in there, good for you... We've had 2, leaked, 7 service calls, ended up with a refund... Bosch was quiet...

Ironically the best DW ( and clothes washer) are the louder non-efficient models of old... Wish someone would still make them, and preferably models that shut the $%$^ up and don't beep all the time to let you know they are done....

We got a Miele as part of the whole house renovation. Its very quiet, has three levels (top is for silverware), and appears to be very well made (mostly stainless interior). It does a very good job cleaning. This is the second dishwasher I have owned that doesn't have a heating element for drying and I wish it did. I end up having to do a fair amount of towel drying which I don't like. I'll gladly pay for the extra electricity to have completely dry dishes at the end of the cycle.

We picked out a Miele, with the three levels of racks, looks really well made and so far it has worked well.

One more vote for Bosch,even though you already made your decision.
We've had ours since 2002 and still works like the day we bought it,never any problem and my wife uses it at least twice a week.

Good game plan getting the Miele. Pay a bit more up front and avoid the drama further down the line. Nice to have the extended warranty.

DWs are the only appliance I seem to have problems with grrr, and always buy the extended warranty. Haha, I pulled one out of a rental a month ago to see if I could fix it myself and noticed written across the top in my own handwriting "5 year warranty, finishes ...." I was overjoyed to find I had two weeks left.

I have two Bosch Benchmark series dishwashers in my house. They have been excellent.

Also there are only two DW makers that have the leak-stop technology. Bosch is one of them I can't remember the other....but basically there's a tray under it and if a leak is detected it cuts the water supply off immediately. Good piece of mind.

Don't buy anything Kenmore Elite or Kenmore Pro...I had one of those and it was always broken from the time it was new.

I have a bosch too, works great. Not the top of the line but 1 step down, maybe 49/50 db? Quiet and works. I usually use the fast/express/whatever its called setting, takes 30 min.

We just bought an entire suite of LG appliances for our remodeled kitchen. The dishwasher is silent, dries pretty well without a heating element, and gets the dishes super clean. We talked to a repair guy, he said he sees the most Whirlpool service calls by far with Kenmore, Frigidaire, and Maytag coming in next on the list.

My Asko was good, but not cheap.

I also bought a stainless steel Bosch off C/L, and it works fine.

We now have a Bosch but the Miele we had lasted 22 years. I don't think you could go wrong with either.

I liked the two Kitchenaids I have purchased. However, they replaced pretty cheesy ones that were so thin walled and noisy. Wimpy insulation and a motor the size of your fist vs a small canteloupe.

My pal has a Bosch. It's just as quiet as the Kitchenaids were.

The Kitchenaids clogged a lot in the drain. Our fault for debris but there was little tolerance in the system for this.
