I'm no longer stuck in traffic on my way to work. Wuhan Rocks!

Today I took a shower and got ready as normal. Fed the dog and made the coffee. BEFORE I had any coffee I made a quick trip to a local ice cream and dairy store that also has a "fresh market" and sells fresh fruit and veggies. I got some bananas and a loaf of bread and milk for my wife to use on her cereal. Got back home, scrubbed my hands and got my coffee.

One other change, I now carry a pen that has a stylus designed for touch screens. I still have to insert my CC in the reader, but I don't touch the screen at the spot where every other customer touches the credit option.

Yep.

I will admit to one very minor change.

I have worked from home for the last three years anyway, so that is no different. I usually eat a sandwich for lunch. Cheap, easy to make, and I use a different cheese or meat to change it up. I usually buy a new loaf when I am at the last few pieces of bread. Today I bought more bread even though it was a few days early with the rate of consumption. Mostly because it will save me a trip "out into the public" but partly because yesterday when I was at the store the bread area was empty.

Indeed I will eat it all, and none will go to waste except the heels as normal.

For me, no work for a while, more time on my hands.
Fortunately my home and cars are paid for but this is going to hurt.

Nobody is getting tested unless they are so sick they require hospitalization, and I only have persistent respiratory congestion at this point. I think the next few days will show exactly how sick I will get. Obviously my wife has been thoroughly exposed though contact with me.

Introspectively, I think my life still has purpose, but I have had a pretty full life, and I have done everything I ever wanted to do. Wondering on your mortality can certainly cause one to question what is really important. I have helped a lot of people in my life, but I do wonder if we are leaving the world a better place for our children.

Meanwhile, my wife wonders if we are going to run out of paper towels. I hope not. ;)

feel better DD!! hydrate hydrate..sleep.

Hard to take this thread seriously when people insist on calling it the Wuhan virus, all the other threads are calling it either Covid-19 or Corona.

Except for losing a ton of paper money in the stock market, we are definitely saving a lot of money by not going to restaurants, getting coffee, or dropping our take out by 90%, which makes me really feel sorry for all the people in the service industry, or small businesses that rely on foot traffic. They must be getting killed. I donated to our local foodbank.

Our daughter is settling into her 8th grade classes using Google Meetup or whatever, so now I have 2 people complaining about wifi instead of just my wife as I WFH.

A stylus for credit card reader is a great idea. I had to sign a credit card reader last week and I could only think about finding a wipe or hand sanitizer.

Monthly Credit card bill should be waaaay down.

I bought a keg. Waiting for this to get serious.

Is that a rotary hoe she's dragging across the lawn?

No, but I have an order in for a PTO powered rototiller since the semi trucks moving big stone to my seawall have caused "issues".

The piece she is dragging is a spike aerator that is at least 50 plus years old and came with the farm...it is a real art piece that I use every year then love on until needed.

Not surprised it caught your eye.

My lung function is way better now than it was a few days ago. It seems unlikely to me that I had a mild case of the virus, but it is possible. There is no way to know. Things are really going to ramping up here in the next few days at the hospitals, the numbers are rising sharply.

A lot of people here are confused, but holing up is as much to prevent one from passing the virus on as it is to keep from getting it. Most of the people I know are over 60, so I am not hanging with anyone.

Good news, Daniel!

Had an interesting conversation this morning with a neighbor who happens to be a cop in a neighboring large city. We were discussing the reduction traffic due to the WUHAN flu and how fast people were driving.

Reader's digest version:
Lots of cops don't want to deal with the public unless they have to. 20 mph over the limit probably won't get you pulled over unless you're driving like an idiot.
you gotta be screwing up pretty bad, 30 over or weaving around would probably be enough.
Their unofficial strategy is to be as conspicuous as possible so the public will see you and hopefully slow down.
he said there are always exceptions. For some local cops its business as usual but they are in the minority.

Earlier in the crises infancy; I had a young lady move seats away from my wife and I. In Spanish I heard her say something about us being infected. Us being Chinese. Never mind I’m from Texas.

I’m not sure how I feel about it being called the Chinese or Wuhan flu.
‘It belongs to all of us.

My cop buddy told me they got a 911 call when they saw 7 Asian men standing together. Hehe.

Oh, the young germ racist lady? We were eating in an Asian restaurant!

I’m more conscious of my ethnic background now. It’s probably my own paranoia and hair trigger. I hate that about myself. In that way I’ve changed.

Calling it Chinese or Wuhan flu is a political move. Trying to direct responsibility to someone else.
Long ago i learned taking responsibility for something gives you the power to do something about it. Saying its not me, it's them or it's not my fault, makes you helpless and unable to control your own life.

pmax 03-21-2020 12:28 PM

My lawn is a looking a lot better thanks to the Wuhan flu.
