India Pale Ale revelation

Ex stopped by the garage for a headlight bulb and cabin air filter and she brings me six IPA cans in a bag. Not sure why she had it. Don't ask. Don't tell, maybe?

Never liked IPA but it is beer and I am not wasteful.

First was awful, just like I always remembered. 2nd went down way easier. By the fourth, I was loving that stuff.

I think a brand new avenue has opened up in my life.

I had the same experience. Couldn't stand it for most of my life. Now, it's all I buy. Some really interesting stuff out there.

IPA's are called that since they were brewed to withstand being shipped to India - on sailing ships

perfect for Disaster Drinking

I alternate between Two Hearted and All Day IPA (Founders).

It is weird how all of a sudden I began liking IPA's.

All Day IPA is another good one! Tank 7 is technically a farmhouse but similar to Two Hearted and is another great one. I like Boulevard Tropical IPA too, nice light summer IPA.

I'm not a big beer drinker, but I do like IPAs. I'll drink one with a sandwich because I like the hoppy flavor, and yeah, if the beer is there and I'm there and ... you know how it goes. I'll have more than one.
I'll drink one of about any beer - even light beer or a Bud or Millers. However I do not like and won't drink any of the sour beers. Yech.
My all time favorite beer is Zoetic, from Yellow Springs Brewery. It's called an American Pale Ale and adds a little citrus to the usual IPA flavor. I grab a dozen whenever I'm in the area.

Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA
I'm hoping I can find a clone recipe to make some.

I kind of grew up on, well, from teens age anyway, EAST India Pale Ale. It was what you drank in the heat of the summer.

Love IPAs, even if purists accuse them often of being over hopped.

I am also really keen on the American style red IPAs. In fact, America has revealed itself in recent years to be a truly excellent maker of low volume beers.

If you had told me years ago, as I stared at the Coors in my hand in disbelief, that I would one day say American beer is really good.....

Stuart, what do you think of those Dutch/Belgain/German beers? Very light pale sort of beers that you just drink in big quantities,

Yeah they had to try and make IPA's new again so "hazy" or "cloudy" became a thing. The funny thing is I was cool before making cloudy beer was in. I never bothered going beyond adding Irish moss about 15 minutes before flame out on the boil. Sometimes I'd cold crash before I kegged but mostly I just let the beer clear in the keg. Sometimes (many times really) it never got the chance to clear.

There's no real secret to making IPA's. Pick some hops that work well together and throw a freeking ton in at different intervals. Early (in the boil) hops for bittering. Later hops for flavor profile and aroma.

I am not a fan of IPAs. I love beer, but an IPA is the last on a long list of beer I will buy. When I was in Vermont the stores had mostly IPA beer and it was hard to find anything else.

My nephew thinks IPA is the best. I guess that is why they make different beers. I prefer a German Lager style. The best beer in the world is Erdinger Dunkle*. It is hard to find on a regular basis. My local beer supply store has some on order all the time for me.

So the IPA drinkers can have all they want of my share of IPA. And I always thought it was India Pale Ale designed to age in the barrel on the long trip from England to India before they started brewing their own beer.

* My opinion only, but I know I am right!
