So, I've waited patiently and not tried to buy any groceries...
We can go another week w/o much of a problem and possibly 2 weeks if we get creative and eat what's on hand. Could make it 3 weeks if I was willing to eat cranberry sauce out of the can.
I thought I'd try Amazon Fresh. I'm a LONG TIME prime member. No dice, filled the online cart with essentials that were available and went to check out. Nope. Delivery dates not available as far out as the calendar goes, to around mid April. Amazon gets a black mark from me. I suspect they've reaped millions in revenue with new memberships, but I get locked out. Fck them. |

Amazon announced a couple days ago that they were going to prioritize all shipments, with medical supplies and urgent things like that coming first.
Less urgent orders have to wait. I'm surprised they are still functional at all given the increase in workload. Quote:

My fridge and freezer was kept too full before, and it was actually a new year resolution to get them down and simplify.
Like it or not, that is what is going to happen now.

Amazon's gimmicks are getting really old. I don't want to be harassed about Amazon fking Prime when I'm checking out at Whole Foods. Hey Bozos, I'm trying to pay and LEAVE already. If the Prime crap was so righteous, then you wouldn't be trying to bring it up while I'm trying to leave.

Yeah pretty much everything non essential from Amazon is delayed. I’m seeing 4-5 day shipping with prime at the moment. Assuming they are focusing on shipping of medical supplies I’m cool with it.

Finding nitrile gloves has been challenging, thank god I've ordered from Uline in the past, they are only selling to existing customers, 8 boxes of 100 should be here tomorrow. Go through a box a week. Wish I could find a few N95s for Cerakote and powder coating stripper work. Last one is precious.

Go back to the 2 gas crises years of '74 and '78. Most of the time the average amount of gas out on the street exists in half full tanks. At the point of the shortage, the amount of gas sitting in cars was more than the reserves. It was millions of gallons that were sucked up by the greedy. And I needed a truck with gas to work. So, I should know tough lessons. |

Just supposition but I imagine they want to cut down on someone buying 1000 boxes at $10/each and selling them for $30 each.
Even for me, existing customers, limit is 20 boxes. I'd like to think more will be available in 2 months so I only bought 8 boxes.

Milt, this morning I stopped into a Ralph’s grocery store and it wasn’t busy at all. I wouldn’t waste time with Amazon.

One thing to consider is fewer trips to the store means fewer chances to pick up the virus.

We have a local owned chain store here called Braum's. They started as a dairy store with ice cream and milk. The owner (old man Braum) likes total control. He owns the farms the cows are grazed on, the milk production, the trucks and the stores. He even has his own crew to design and build the stores. His employees do the refrigeration repair and building maintenance. His employees clean the store, and take care of everything.
He open up into hamburgers and fast food many years ago, and hated having to buy buns, so he built a bakery and makes his own bread and buns. They even make great cookies of various types. Great selection of ice cream. Chocolate Chip cookie dough ice cream is great. Then he started expanding his stores into a "fresh market" area that sells fruits and veggies, so it is a mini grocery store. We have one within a mile of our house. I was usually in there a few times per week for more fruit and a self confessed fruit-a-holic. I still make a run for replacement bananas and more bread. I was in there yesterday for a quick run. I use a pen with a stylus on one end for use on phones or touch screens. It is just a rubbery tip that works great for touching the credit card machine and hitting the credit button on the screen. I sure don't want cash change. Yesterday the bread and bananas were well stocked, but the oranges and apples were slim choices. Their meat department was empty. Lots of cookies, ice cream and milk however! So I go in, get my stuff, use the pen to touch the credit card machine, and get home. Of course then I wash my hands.

One two miles from me. Went yesterday for milk. Cooler was full. Ice cream was full. Meat selection was low. Sweet rolls low (cinnamon rolls empty) . Cheese pretty well picked over. Couple of folks ordering burgers. Only a couple of people in the place. Far less shopping traffic than usual. |
