Would you fly?
Would you fly anywhere in the USA in April? Do you think it’s safe?

From someone who has flown almost every week of his adult life until two weeks ago...I would not. Not only a matter of who sits inches away from you, but also who sat there on the previous 10 flights. I'm not confident that disinfection is comprehensive in such an environment and that the same is true for airports. Perhaps as we begin to see significant decline in the infection rate...but not now.

Some enterprising entreprenuer needs to start an airline where the key differentiator is overall plane cleanliness and social distancing of passengers. Sure it probably only works on certain routes, but short of private (not shared) jet service, it'd have little competition.

Absolutely not. We are cancelling some flights that we setup earlier this year.
Being in an airplane is, to me, probably 1000x worse than being in a cruise ship for the same amount of time due to the recirculated air.

$14 flights Newark to Miami..... so tempting. @tdw - I wouldn't go through an airport either. I don't get it. China was aggressively misting/dowsing all public areas with disinfectant. Everyone wore masks. We're told to carry wipes, and use a scarf/bandana.

What he said.
As others have posted it is all about air re-circulation in the cabin.

Completely ignoring the issue of actually catching something, I wouldn't want to be quarantined in some strange city for 2 weeks if someone on the flight showed symptoms, which, is a real possability.
There is just too many funnel/congestion points in an airport for me to be comfortable, and too many folks out there NOT caring about others in their own hygiene. |

Would you let someone in your house who had just flown in to town?

I flew just under 2 weeks ago. Still self quarantining....no desire to fly again anytime soon, nor allow someone in my house who has recently flown.

my firends daughter just moved to Dallas right when the chit hit the fan. she was alone and nervous. she just flew home to shelter in a familiar place.
apparently she dressed like she was an extra in a virus movie. hoodie, face mask. gloves. she had a can of wipes and wiped the plane down around her. she handed it out to the other few coustomers and they did the same. she joked the smell probably killed the virus alone. she said the flight attendant thanked her. ME? NFW. i have delicate lungs.

I flew Austin to Chicago and back on the 11th and 12th of March for a funeral. I would not go 2 weeks ago.
Flew in and out of O'hare. Someone plopped down right next to me wearing mask and gloves. Here we go.

I would fly to get OUT of a place like NYC if I was there and it was not my home, and I felt like I had no better option. I would not be excited about travel that was not related to immediate health or survival concerns.

Even if you WOULD fly for business, your client doesn't want you in his/her office. Or they're not even there. So why even take the risk?

Even before the Chinese virus hit, I was thankful that there was nowhere I needed or wanted to go that would make me put up with the hassles of flying...

Airports and airplanes, train stations and trains, subway stations and subways, cruise ships. These are clearly the best possible places to transmit this bug to 1000s or 10,000s of people. If you look at the early maps of the spread, they are all of the transportation hubs around the world.
I'll be avoiding public transportation in all it's forms for a while.

I think grocery stores and gas stations are the two most likely places to catch it right now.
Think I’ll postpone travel for a month or two. |
