Turbotax

My wife bought Turbotax from Amazon only to find that it won't work with our old Dell Inspiron laptop that runs Windows 7. So, then she bought H&R Block tax software again from Amazon. They claim it WILL work with Windows 7. Same result. Download it from the web, then click on it and it asks "what program do you want to use to open it"? Nothing seems to make it run. Can't seem to figure out. Even tried to download Windows 10 too but it says my bios won't cut it. I'd hate to have to buy a new laptop just to get this done. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Use the online version of Turbotax or upgrade to a new OS.

I'm running Win 7 and I was able to install TurboTax just fine about a month ago. I did get a message about them thinking it would be best if I upgrade to Win 10 and that I'll be screwed this time next year if I don't, but it wasn't a "we won't work at all until you upgrade" kind of thing.

Try to install again and read the messages very carefully. I think you should be able to run turbo tax this year.

In this day and age, I don't know why anyone would be installing crap like that on their PC/laptop.

My concerns with tax prep software - be it online or native - is who are they selling (or renting) all the data to, and how are they keeping it secure.

In a perverted way I kinda don't mind how fooked our personal info is distributed anymore. When the siht hits the fan I just tell them, "It wasn't me. I didn't go there."

Discover Card has handled a pretty good breech for me quite well. Don't keep any money in checking. Don't to online banking and use third party payment like PP or Amazon Pay for all online transactions.

And I manage to 'lose' my cards within 24 months. Silly me. New number.

Turbotax is overpriced. There are better options. Try FreeTaxUSA.com

I recently asked others:
Free federal tax return software?

The problem is every time I try to open it, it comes up with a Windows screen that asks "what program would you like to use to open it?" and has a list of Adobe, Word, Office, etc etc. Nothing gets it to run. It never says anything about the operating system but when we looked on Amazon it said it was for Win 8 and 10.

Download it from the web. Use your install serial number. It should install.
