Hope - expecting a favorable outcome in the face of evidence to the contrary. Just How Much better will we become at treating this, and when? How long did it take us to cure the common cold? oh wait...

oh look, ^ CNN cherry picks data to make Sweden appear to be a fail - i am shocked!
Neighboring countries compared with 10's% better % results, but the article leaves out the next neighboring countries with 100's% more death % Sweden shows that even with all of their Chinese furniture and minimal 'social distancing' that such draconian economic /anti-social shut down is really not the big player that it has been sold to be.

Clearly Ethiopia has THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME social distancing program. - kidding, of course. I have no confidence in their reporting accuracy. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Cherry pick? Norway, Denmark and Finland are literally Sweden’s only neighbors. And the same climate and way of life separate the Nordics from the rest of Europe, and makes it a logical comparison group. The next neighbors with 100s % more deaths? Which ones are you cherry picking here? Belgium? Spain? Italy? What about Belarus, Poland and Germany? They are closer, but have less deaths per 100k citizens.
Sweden has 80-100 new deaths per day. Norway is right now at 206, total, and Sweden 2355. With only double the population. But I agree that we won’t know the right strategy for a long time. But there are a lot of criticism in Sweden too these days, that they are doing the right thing. And the population are isolating themselves, which I guess is what you think Americans would do, if they were given a choice and not being told. But I have my doubts. Here society is opening up again. Schools, kindergarten, hairdressers etc. It will probably cause an uptick in the stats. The next weeks will be telling.

By the way. Belarus was a piss poor example by me... They are rising fast, and haven’t had any restrictions whatsoever. Please ignore - I’m tired... :-)

We have been told that weather doesn't change a thing for this virus. --apparently except for Sweden's weather being like Norway's, but NOT like Belgium's. ![]() I think that what many of you are missing is the reality of this. You SO want your mental (social distancing) model to 'fit' that you can not see the undeniable stats. "Social distancing" fans could argue, that SD was simply not done right for this virus. That would explain how these numbers have such a massive span (beyond the obvious different levels of reporting) And that Sweden is in that mix with MANY countries (w/ SD) doing much worse. IOW, if Sweden had Norway's SD, no one would even say boo about their stats. Well, maybe they would shrug and say, well, Sweden has bigger cities, so... sucks to be them But because they kept their schools and all open people look for a way to say SEE!!...they have higher numbers because they didn't comply with group-think. Another thought - We are told that people can be carrying this around (spreading) for a couple of weeks, and yet going shopping is allowed? Perhaps that is why 6 weeks after SD shut-downs we still have peak death around the SD world. (SD was not done well enough)

^ And here you can see how Sweden really stands out as being a huge fail for deaths per million. Why can't they be more like Switzerland? WHY!!!!????

Netherlands... Why is no one complaining about their failure?
Is it because they don't have Norway's weather? ![]() How about Ireland? ...is Ireland on the Equator? Point is, the differences in CFR do not have some profound correlation to weather or to social distancing attempts. People who insist that there is need to show their work, and not cherry pick to promote disinformation.

IIRC Mexico city has the largest population density of any city. And where are their huge CFR numbers?

You'll have to start a new thread on Mexico City, we are talking about Sweden's failure in this thread. Start one on Madagascar too, I'm sure that will come up.

You are changing the topic to population density; not me.

You have to be willful ignorant or purposely dishonest if you don't see that hot-spots developed irrespective of "social distancing" programs. France, Italy...
I mean, really... Picking certain countries and saying LOOK.!.. Look at these neighboring countries... See, they are a bit better than Sweden. Don't look any further... Don't look at the magnitudes of CFR differences among all.. Just look at the small differences of Sweden's neighboring countries. Focus only on those. Yeah, that is not honest.
