Nice car. Post it in the tech forum too.

Are you trying for this?.....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/1056879-2020-pelican-parts-virtual-car-show-win-up-750-gift-card-enter-here.html

Tell me more about the lower portion of the dash where the Cassette goes. That curve that connect the two is so clean that it looks like stock from the factory

ddelano 04-08-2020 05:40 AM

Yes, I am trying for the Pelican Virtual Car Show. I may have posted this twice, realizing I needed to ‘reply’ to the Car Show thread instead of creating a new thread... oops.

Will do. This was an accident posting here. I was aiming for the Virtual Car Show and missed! 😎

There was a company in San Diego called Alan Johnson Racing that did very high end modifications like the infamous slant nose conversions. They built custom center consoles in many configurations like the photo attached. I plan to remove the cassette holder and ash tray and install the 2” clock (planning on a 934 boost gauge where the clock is), and a real time AFR gauge.

You have 2 serial numbers listed in your title. What is the story behind it?

LakeCleElum 04-08-2020 07:46 AM

Lovely....

Racerbvd 04-08-2020 07:46 AM

It looked better with the Ronals.

On mine, maybe the exact one to that photo, only without the dials or gauges on it instead, only the fan and hazard lights are on it with an electronic boost gauge.

Nice car...hoping you win.

ddelano 04-09-2020 07:37 AM

The #452 / 461 is this is car #452 out of (divided by) a total of 461 US cars in '78. The title of the thread said '77 which was a fat finger typo that I cant seem to correct... thanks for the interest. BTW, this is paint to sample original color (one respray) since '78.

Mine is well done... so well in fact I am having a hard time figuring out how to take it out to service the shift bushings. I get a little 'nick' when shifting fast from 2 to 3 and I (hope) its just a worn bushing! :-)

Thanks! I doubt it - there are so many amazing cars out there. I'm a hobbyist, not a builder. :-)

ddelano 04-09-2020 07:43 AM

I still have the Ronal's. They need some refinishing due to rash (not bad) and plan to keep both sets. Probably one for thrashing on DE days and one for road use.

Yeah, that PTS color was used on a bunch of 78s for some reason. There was one at a friend's shop where the paint was cracked and butterflied from neglect. How did you get the correct paint code for the repaint?

Funny - I ordered it thinking I would use it from time to time for grins. Put it together and put it on the car - no go. Just didn't like it on a 930. Possibly in a beat up 912... so it went back to Rennline. Bought a 934 boost gauge instead. That is ready to go in this weekend. Also working on a mock up (carboard only at this point) re-do of the custom control panel in the console. I will move the OEM clock there with an AFR gauge below it. See pic with just the clock mocked up for now. The 934 boost gauge will go where the clock used to be.

Cool I was wondering the same thing. Never seen one of those, looks nice.
