Early models yes but my '12 holds valve clearance very well.Of course I rarely red line her.

I haven't ridden on the street for close to 10 years, but only just gave up racing after 15 years.

One of my friends raced a 900ss, not overly competitive, but sure did sound great with a set of Termis.

I seem to recall that guys on the Ducati forums were saying that stock bikes actually have a higher top speed in fifth gear. They just don't have the power to pull sixth up well enough into the fat part of the power band to allow them to keep pulling. Apparently, the 15/39 raises top speed over the 15/37 with unmodified motors. Mine has never had a 15/37 set on it, so I can't say, but it does redline sixth with the 15/39 pretty easily. The 15/40 even more so. Still far, far faster than I really ever want to go on a motorcycle, but, you know - we do kinda have to try... at least once...

I sold my bike soon after doing 130 on the Mass Pike one early morning. Slowing down to 80 was like walking. It was then that I knew I had to sell it.

you probably have enough data on the original question, but more data is good: 5 10 on a '96. ...last Saturday I took the covers off, opened the fuel lines and started it, warmed it up and inspected. What a sound... at 3k its already nuts good. Its the air cooled 911 of motorcycles...

Thank you Shawn and everyone. I was looking at one in CA but one closer in CO has popped up from a great seller. Once the snow melts we are going to meet and talk turkey.

Fun with useless bling...lest we overlook the the visual and audible joys of the dry clutch:

911 boost, hope you don't mind me asking some related 900ss questions.

Thanks for the other info. So approx when is engine rebuild time assuming mostly road miles and not always at redline?

911boost 04-18-2020 10:46 AM

Not at all!

HardDrive 04-18-2020 12:22 PM

When you guys are in first gear, going up a steep hill, if snap the throttle open, you don't get the front wheel off the ground?

white frame bikes look the best IMHO

Nikola Racunica who owns and runs Moto Meccanica would be a good person to see. He's in Burnaby and has been racing Ducatis for a number of years.

The best Ducati mechanic around is Gord McMartin, He's up in Kelowna, not sure who he is working for though. I believe he's doing work on the Radical's with the Hayabusa based V8. He's likely one of the best ducati wrenches in Canada or the US.

Lovely!

Mike, that clutch looks bad ass.

Hell yes - mine will do it on level ground, just rolling it on real hard, all the way up into third gear. But I know it's going to do it... In retrospect, though, when I first got it, I think it caught me off guard a few times.

Yes. Even though mine is a '93, and therefor the champaign frame, one day I will completely strip it down and paint or powder coat it white. Just the frame, though, like HardDrive's. While I think they originally had white wheels, I like the white frame/black wheel look.

Hey, I'm pretty sure I know that bike, and the Pelican who currently owns it. If it's the one I'm thinking of, you're in line to get one hell of a motorcycle. Congratulations...

911boost 04-18-2020 03:50 PM

You do Jeff and this will be the second motorcycle I have purchased from him. I was hoping you’d chime in once I posted the picture. We still have a few things to work out but I am looking forward to seeing him and getting the deal done.

Looks like a certain rockstar's machine. If so, I seem to remember it being nicely equipped (FBF big bore kit maybe?), and well cared for...

Agreed, white frame black wheel is best. Bronze/champagne wheel would be nice too.

Please don't use powder, it will look like hell. White "fleet" line of PPG or other paint would work. If you were closer, I'd Cerakote it for you. Better durability than paint or powder and it would look great. Must be a Cerakote shop out there that could do it.

Noah930 04-18-2020 06:11 PM

I must be the odd guy out; I've always preferred the champagne frame
