900SS Guys, how tall are you?
I know there are a few owners on here (Harddrive, Jeff, etc.). Have been casually looking but starting to do so more seriously.
With the current restrictions is place, going to sit on ride a number of bikes is not an option. Out of curiosity how tall are you? Thanks! |

I have a 30" inseam, if that's what you're getting at. I can flat-foot the bike at a stop.
|
Thanks Shaun, Kurt and Noah.
I am 6-4 with a 34-35" inseam. With most Japanese sports bikes I am just too tall. I have fit well on BMW's but have had one of those and would like to try something else. I am going to sell the dirt bikes and it will free up space for another addition. Understanding of course it would not be comfortable like my bagger Harley but that is not what I am looking for. |
6-1, 32" inseam. Very comfortable bike.
I just turned 50. I have had one(1), bike that I ever sold, and bought another one. 900ss. |

5’11”, 32” inseam. The ergos have been tweaked a bit. Footpegs shaved, different seat, heli’s. At 61, it’s still a very enjoyable ride. Love this bike.

Tabs Abdul Jabaar...where do source them draggin' azz jeans :D?
|
I'm 6'3" with a 36" inseam and I sold these when they first came out. I took a brand new one for a 175 mile each way trip and was perfectly comfortable on it although I was only 23 at the time. I didn't have any problem with size and thought it was much roomier than the Japanese bikes of the day.
|
6'1", 33" inseam.
These bikes are definitely "roomy" compared to other sport bikes. They are renowned for their more relaxed riding position. I have tried riding a number of friends' Ducati "super bikes", 1098's and 1198's, and I just can't do it. I can ride my Super Sport pretty much all day, with a few breaks. |
Good timing 911boost, same height same problem. I assume the 916 is similar to the 1098/1198 for ergonomics?
Is there any preferred years for the 80's and 90's 900ss? Still kicking myself on this one, there was a 1978 900ss needing restoration, for sale nearby a couple of weeks ago and I talked myself out of it, sold quickly. |

I think the biggest difference for the SuperSports is the decision on whether you want a carbureted bike ('88 - '98) or fuel injected ('99 - '07). The styling was also vastly different from one generation to the next. Most of us on this board seem to have had the carby SuperSports. I have a '93, so my experience is with the carbureted, square headlamp model. Earlier 900SS bikes had a motor based off the original SuperSport line from pre-'82. I think in '91 they switched to a motor based off the Paso. The '91 and '92 models will have a white frame. Later bikes ('93 and on) have a champagne colored frame. Along the way ('94? '95? '96? --someone correct me), Ducati added on carbon fiber bits, adjustable suspension, and an aluminum swingarm and called the model 900 SS/SP (as opposed to just 900 SS). SP = Sport Production. So I suppose that would be slightly more desirable. The last 2 years of the 900 SS ('97 and '98) had a slightly different side fairing and graphics. But I think the bike was fundamentally the same. There was also a 900 SS/CR model. CR for Cafe Racer. Denoted by a half fairing, instead of a full fairing. Those are less desirable, as they have non-adjustable suspension, steel swingarm, and a narrower rear wheel. Most desirable/collectible 900 SS model was the Superlight. '92-'94? Yellow paint and cosmetic changes (CF fenders, monoposto, upswept mufflers). Then in '99 the styling was vastly changed (looks similar to the Supermono), and fuel injection was added. I have no experience with that bike, so I can't be of much help there. |
Am I some sort of a freak at 5'10" with a 32-33" inseam?
|
say 5-11 and haven't ridding the beauty for too long,

Damn, you all are not making me not do it any easier!
You are not a freak Shaun, of course I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn...... My dad is all torso and he is over 6 foot. Thank you Noah, that is what I am seeing looking and reading about them. The difficulty now being the social distancing etc. and it would pretty much require a purchase and then ship situation. Good feedback Jeff and David.. |
I bought my bike sight unseen and cross-country. Though I did have a buddy eyeball it before pulling the trigger. I used Keyboard for shipping.
|
I bought my GT3 halfway across country however I went and saw it first.
How much do you thinking shipping from CA to CO would be? Ballpark. |
And I would not want to ask someone to go eyeball anything for me right now, with everything going on, but I get what you are saying.
