Really just looking for feedback, but I'll be updating this post with more episodes as they come out. I did a similar thing last year with an overlanding build of an AWD Astro, turned out pretty decent:

Would dig any feedback or suggestions you have, thanks!

I would not short change a 2.7 refurbish.

As you stated magnesium is soft. Some important German guy a while ago said they flex like a banana.

The video is so well edited. You have skills.

My suggestion is to work hard and eat the labor cost with your own skills and pay the extry for all that stuff you are supposed to do for the 2.7.

Bruce Anderson said it's a great engine once the cooties are tended to.

rusnak 04-20-2020 07:03 PM

Love the concept. Had to stop watching at around 0:46. I can't handle the camera work. I got motion sickness.

ADDvanced 04-20-2020 07:08 PM

Ha. Well. If it helps the hyperlapse stops at 0:55 and doesn't happen again.

zelrik911 04-20-2020 07:22 PM

I enjoyed that, please continue.

Perhaps emphasise again & again that cost savings can be achieved, to some extent, with a 2.7 rebuild (& a 915 refresh).
Good luck.

rusnak 04-20-2020 07:46 PM

You should do the leakdown test before deciding to tear the motor apart. Do it several times in fact.

A SC is 3.0 liters, not 3.2. A 3.2 Carrera with Motronic would be beyond your budget with just the necessary fuel/ wiring alone.

Fixing the oil leaks are the easiest part of this project. Most likely just oil return tubes and thermostat. You will have to drop the engine to get to the thermostat.

The thing to do is clean the entire engine thoroughly, then run it to see where fresh oil leaks out.

JackDidley 04-20-2020 07:50 PM

Nice video. If you want to make $$$$ they need to be longer. Between 10 and 20 minutes. If you are going to have fun doing this, you may as well make some cash.

Will do. This is definitely an "only fix what it needs to get it back on the road again" type of job, not a 'while you are in there' project.

Yup. As I mentioned in the original post, episode 3 will be leakdown and checking head studs.

You need 10,000 subscribers to make a single cent. I have 300, so.... it doesn't really matter. Lol. Next one will be longer though, as it covers the entire engine/trans removal.

+1. I didn't get sick, but you need to slow down the panning.

You don't need a certain amount of subscribers. You are not looking at the big picture. Links play a huge part in the money making aspect. If you can get sponsors, even better.

You need 1000 subscribers & 4000 public watch hours to monetize your views.

Ignore the people discussing money.
They are missing the point.
You will not make a dime.

Keep up the video documentation.
It is nonexistent on these cars

Everybody on youtube started with a first view. You do quality work. Promote it on a few forums and before you know it, it could get big.

Ryan_Cunningham 04-21-2020 02:12 PM

I liked it. Looking forward to more.

Zeke 04-21-2020 02:18 PM

Ignore Sugarwood. I know people who make some money. I don't know any YT rock stars.
To make money on YT you play the game their way, not yours.

rusnak 04-21-2020 02:35 PM

Leak down test on a stone-cold motor out of the car?

rusnak 04-21-2020 02:43 PM

Okay here's what I would do if you were my friend that I knew you. I would help you change the oil pressure switch and the thermostat o-ring for the in block thermostat. Adjust valves. Look for obvious vacuum leaks. Reinstall engine. New engine oil and filter. Clean the engine oil off the outside of the engine and the bottom. Check to see where clean engine oil is leaking out. You may have a leak at the oil cooler, in which case it would be the oil cooler o-rings. at this point you need to check fuel pressure, ignition timing, and ideally borrow or buy a wideband O2 sensor to check your mixture ratio.

sugarwood 04-22-2020 05:29 AM

Ignore me? You are the one posting lies.
To monetize, you need 1000 subscribers. PERIOD.
Look at you giving out tech advice, LMAO.

slow&rusty 04-22-2020 06:06 AM

Good video!
I thought the editing, content and overall duration is good - I just subscribed as well.

I have transitioned most of my technical "how-to" videos on YouTube as I own a bunch of old cars and like to help other owners. I have just under 900 subscribers and my video with the most views actually has over 77,000 views and I received a royalty check from YouTube for less than a $1.00, which I framed ..haha!

I actually started doing YouTube videos back in early 2006 and had decent success and then dropped completely off for 6-7 years due to "life" and then slowly started rebuilding my channel and content as many people kept asking for more and why did I disappear.

Looking forward to updates on your Targa.
Keep it up.
Yasin

You do need 4000 hours of watch time. It's not a factor of 1000 "subscribers" watching 4 hours each. We both know that's ridiculous. You didn't say that either.

The point is, there are many ways to skin the cat. The 2 figures of 1000 and 4000 are part of a bigger picture. That's all I'm saying and you're saying meet those 2 requirements and the money rolls in (trickles).

I'm saying I disagree.

And yes, I met my tech fu match with video work. It's a totally alien world to me. I'm proficient in MS PP, Publisher, Paint, Adobe PS, Sketchup and many other apps. Silly me to think I could jump right over into the dynamics of videos and editing software.

aigel 04-22-2020 12:58 PM

Not a fan of vlogs. I prefer reading. Much more time efficient and easy to go back to for information. I guess vlogs are for entertainment, so you can sit back and watch like a movie. For that most vlogs are too poorly produced. That's just me. Count me with the "old man yells at cloud" on this today!

Might as well have jacked up first then done both drain plugs.

Smart use of the screwdriver bit on the drill to get the hose off.

Awesome demontration of the wood clamp trick.

Great tip about taking photos. That saved my ass this weekend, actually.

Not a fan of distracting music.

I can see you got tired off filming details when **** got real.
Thanks for keeping the camera on. Your work now lives forever.

Make sure you add the proper tags so people can find this video.
You are missing some major keywords.
"911 3.2 SC engine drop removal"

Loved seeing you pull out!!! Touchdown!!!!
Huge balls doing that scale a project with no mentor or partner.
Must feel great. So jealous. Great work, man.

Really like the videos! Good information & explanations. Not a fan of the generic house music though. Small criticism, but I think it detracts from the overall production. Looking forward to ep. 3!

ADDvanced 04-23-2020 10:29 AM

Yeah, me either to be honest. I keep getting dinged on copyright claims whenever I use decent tunes. Not really sure what to do about that. Any ideas?

Tim Hancock 04-23-2020 11:52 AM

I like your videos.... I too have been messing around with posting Youtube videos. Being a 50+ guy it still takes me too long to edit and I am am not too good at it. I find myself going way to long between posting videos because I never feel like I have the time to properly edit.

You have inspired me to get back at it though. Even if no one else enjoys them, at least my grandkids have something to watch while they are home all day from the China flu shutdown. lol

1st motorhome project video

No music or VERY faint ambient background. Not in your face annoyance. Most of us had to mute, I bet.

ADDvanced 04-23-2020 01:33 PM

Have an example, Sugarwood?

JackDidley 04-23-2020 02:24 PM

I just searched YT for non copyright music. Lots on there.

Joe Bob 04-23-2020 03:00 PM

One of the most responsive motors I've ever had was a 2.7....rebuilt of course, 20/21 cams and weber carbs. Great STOCK motor until USEPA farked them up with the thermal destructors.

If I did it again, I would use PMOs. Sticking carbs on a FI motor is stupid and pisses off the motor. Low mileage, stumbles, hard starting and generally acts like my geriatric Aunt untils it warms up....

sugarwood 04-23-2020 04:03 PM

How about no copyright jazz?
Would add to the analog snob factor

I liked his vid music just fine. I did not mute as what he had to say was interesting and to the point and the music was tasteful.

Jazz can be snobby as you say but disruptive and I think he just needs elevator music given the content is so good.

Like this,..... maybe not?

Elevator music sounds interesting. How about dubstep elevator music? Actually kind of rad:

Just watched your sled repair video from when you hit a tree. Unbelievable on how big of a project that became for what must have first appeared to be a simply body panel replacement. Great job!

sugarwood 04-24-2020 05:11 AM

Something mellow, that's all.
Not something that takes the focus away from the wrenching.
What do you think of this?

Decent, only issue is I need something longer. I guess I could just loop it? Thanks for the link!

There are some aviation youtubers I follow that have really nailed production. steveo1kinevo has some really cool music for his videos that he pulls from SoundCloud. Check out https://soundcloud.com/n-n-b-g/blue-skies-elo-remix for instance. I think something like that would be good behind an intro and the timelapse segments with no music during the live action.

Onwards! Into the heart of darkness!

I get tunnel vision sometimes and forget to exercise or eat. My GF was out of town that weekend and that repair took most of it. lol.

The cause? 3 finger gloves, got caught under the brake lever when I went to use two fingers to brake. Sucked. Threw the gloves into a fire when I got home.
