Debadge debate
Covid has me looking for projects.
I’m thinking of de badging the rear of my silver W210 wagon (e320) and her black BMW E87 (116i). I like the looks of a clean backside ![]() I’ve got a heat gun and dental floss and various paint cleaning/ polishing products. Any reason not to? |

The badge came off easily. Adhesive removed with parts cleaner. Used an electric buffer with some fine cut cleaner. There is still a very faint ghosting of the badge, but hardly noticeable.

Germans have always been big on giving a whole description of the options on the rear. "Turbo, V6, 2.8, Fuel Injected, Quattro, etc, etc. Too cluttered for my taste. WD 40 works good on the stickum.

I debadged my 2012 MB Bluetec "Blue Efficiency" front fender emblems. Left the others. I thought they looked tacky and I am not into the whole virtue signaling thing.
Those two fender badges were the equivalent to me of having a sign in my front yard that says "10.5 kWp solar array installed here".

I debadged my El Camino long long ago. Not for any styling reason, only to make is 1000 times easier to wax. I hated the globs of wax stuck in the badging.
For my 911 I removed the chunky plastic Carrera and took it to a vinyl shop and had them print me two copies of the Carrera script and that is on it now. Super easy to wax that part now.
