How many weeks do we buy the old and infirm?

This "Flattening of the curve." With all the cool math models out there which ones are projecting the number of weeks added to the lives of the old and infirm?

I mean, that is the crux of this. Without a vaccine all we are doing is buying the old and infirm some time. How much time? (on average)

Knowing that this question will really challenge some people's fantasies about living forever (in lock down) I will await the flood of one-star retorts.

For the more level headed out there, if you have seen any such math model I would really appreciate seeing it.

Righto! Let's face it, they all had a pretty good run. We should probably just gas everyone over 65 now and get it over with. Then we can all get off our couch and out of our home theaters and get back to fine dining like we so richly deserve!

Cajun, I have a 79 y/o mother recently out of a weeks-long hospital stay and recovering with in-home care. She is at very high risk and is horrified by this shut down. She thinks it not fair that her grand, and great grand children are going to have a ruined economy so that she MIGHT get another few months of difficult life.

No one is suggesting that we should snuff old people. But BRAVO Cajundaddy! for making that up.

as the co-morbidities they have aren't going away..
so old or young..
you catch it..
and have health issues..
this or the flu could kill you..
could..

as for vaccine..
it will / may help the healthy..
those with a foot in hell or heaven..
becomes roll of the dice or bones..

Our medical system is learning more about treatment options that will improve the death/ hospitalization rates, and time spent in the hospital. We are better st treating today than a month ago and a month from now we will be better then we are today. It is not a static situation.

Aurel - Telling the weak that they need to take extra precautions is not sacrificing them.

Sweden, for example, is focusing energies on giving those weak some focused protections, rather than telling EVERYONE to sit on their (hopefully washed) hands.

i think i read 88% of those that went on a ventilator in NYC died. the vent is the last harrah. the "punt".

suffocating is my nightmare death. (this includes drowning, air tight vaults, etc)

i have an acquaintance that went on a vent here, he pulled thru..but it was super touch and go.
