Who do I donate my change to?

I have been saving all of my change for a couple of years. Needless to say, I have quite a pile.

Last night on the local news they had a story about the local NAACP donating $1250.

I thought to myself that I might have close to that in my change buckets.

So, this morning I sorted out and counted all of the quarters and made an estimate on the pennies, nickels, and dimes.

I didn't have quite as much as I thought. $647.50 in quarters and about $150 in the smaller change. Almost $800.

The local bank has.some other organization that is matching any cash donation, so my pocket change could amount to $1600.

Any other suggestions on who should get my two pots of non precious metal?

The only deserving entity on the planet are the animals.

Give to your local animal shelter/humane society.

Nice haul, I used save a ton of change but the last couple years my cash usage is down to almost zero.

I’d roll it, deposit and then you can donate to anyone you want.

Coinstar turns them into gift cards... if there's one close to you.

I used to accumulate change and my CU had a convienent, free coin counter in the lobby....a few times, I had 12-1500 in FREE $ . Not convenient any more, so I don't do that. If you have a long time association with your bank or CU, mebbe ask them to run it through their counter? I think Coinstar takes nice %....for them....I won't do that...just because .

I used to donate to my "blow the hell out of it" fund ....

A charity is an awesome idea too though

I will call my bank on Monday and see if they will run it. If they will I will get a cashier's check to whomever I decide to get the donation.

You are in the running. One position above the IRS.

Another vote for this...be sure it's local, not the one that advertises on TV.

(edit) Here's the one Cindy & I support. There should be a counterpart near where you live:

I need to learn how to count. I will blame it on the dogs jumping through the mountain of change.

I called the bank and they said to bring it in. I wanted a cashiers check which was a $10 fee. They waived the fee. Cashier check has to be $1000 so I made up the difference to get to a $1000.

I had:

$731.75 in quarters
$232.08 in other change
$963.83 Total

It was a tough choice, but I ended up giving it to the local Food Bank. Mostly because they get a match from a local non profit foundation. Basically, they got 2 grand from my spare change.

My credit union (First Entertainment) has a change counter in the lobby. Coinstar takes 10%, but my credit union only takes 5% and if you have an account for your kid who's under 18 y.o. they deposit the full amount in their savings account for free.

What's Coinstar's %? No way I'm giving them over a hundred bucks for what the bank/CU does for free.

I'm glad you didn't send it to me SOL....I couldn't sleep at night knowing someone else needed it more than I do.....poor Ol' Uncle Sam !

Awesome whatcha did

Credit Union has a coin counter that spits out a deposit slip.

Agree with Baz. Our covid-19 checks are going to local humane society groups, restaurants and food banks.
