Released today by The Stones

They may be in their 70's, but still in tune with the times. "Living in a Ghost Town"..

Porsche-O-Phile 04-25-2020 06:16 PM

Very cool. Caught them last summer in Ontario. They’ve still got it!

serene911 04-25-2020 06:31 PM

Great song, As Porsche-O-Phile said " They've still got" !!! As someone else posted on the
You Tube Comments said , The answer to the Covid crisis is in Keith Richards DNA.

That’s awesome! Thanks for posting that Ziggy. Should be the album cover.

And possibly the best new Stones tune in 50 years. That was great!

GH85Carrera 04-26-2020 05:44 AM

It does just boggle my mind that I have enjoyed listening to the Stones since I was a young kid, and I they are still making music. The Beatles were great, but did not last a decade.

Crowbob 04-26-2020 06:24 AM

I’m not so sure about that, Glen.

It’s a fool’s errand to compare the Stones to the Beatles. Both will occupy their respective places in history. To quantify their greatness by how long they ‘lasted’ diminishes their contributions. Vincent Van Gogh painted for a period of only 10 years and never enjoyed one minute of respect during his entire lifetime, having sold only one painting to someone who pitied him. One of his paintings was found patching a hole in the side of a barn.

Picasso worked continuously for almost 90 years, his entire life pretty much, and was revered throughout most of that time so much so that late in life he could not sign documents, like personal checks, because the document came to be valued more for his signature than it’s intended purpose.

Who was ‘greater’? There’s no meaningful comparison.

Chocaholic 04-26-2020 06:52 AM

The Beatles changed the world. Not sure you can say the same for the Stones.

GH85Carrera 04-26-2020 06:55 AM

I was not comparing the "greatness" just the longevity. Literally hundreds if not thousands of other bands and musicians have come and gone, many with great music. The Stones just keep on making music. I love most of the Beatles music. (Never cared for Revolution #9) and the Beatles changed music more than any other group. But they were just a "flash in the pan" compared to the Stones.

Now McCartney has been around as long as the Stones, and he can sell out huge concerts. If I could spend some time with a rock star, I would pick McCartney over Jagger if someone was granting wishes.

And I would hang a good copy of most of Van Gogh's work in my house. But 99% of Picasso is total crap to my eyes and I would not hang an original of his, so comparisons are hard I agree.

How many other bands or musicians of any genre have been around since the early 1960s, and can STILL sell out a tour, (and still go on tour!) at every venue? McCartney can, but he was not a solo act in the 1960s.

I agree with this....but the Stones were still at it when I became of age....just two awesome bands. There were lots of others too...but their heyday was short lived imo.

Oh yeah...I had plenty of Beatles vs Stones arguementz....

Keef winz :)

Funny how this thread evolved. To me it's not an either-or thing. I like both groups.

This song and it's video sure fits the current time.

This, 100%

It is NOT either or. Heck I like both types of music Rock and Roll.

Bottom line for what I was really trying to say is how many other bands from the early 1960s release a song that is worth listening to, and something about the mess the world is in right now. The new song is not likely to win an big awards or go to number one on the charts, but I bet it makes more money that most of us will this year.

Crowbob 04-26-2020 10:16 AM

Yessir.

To have a band come up with a meaningful, contemporary hit in its 6th decade of superstardom is truly remarkable.

Did the Stones write this song?

Sooner or later 04-26-2020 10:19 AM

Nice

On 23 April, the band released "Living in a Ghost Town" online. It was based on 2019 recording sessions and finished remotely. It is their first original material since 2012.[5] Jagger claims to have written the lyrics in 10 minutes.[1]

The band fast-tracked releasing the song due to its relevance to social distancing as a method to control the spread of COVID-19.[3] Jagger changed some of the lyrics to refer to the pandemic.[6]

Crowbob 04-26-2020 10:25 AM

Thank you.

Cumulative.

Stones had massive impact.

You Can't Always Get What You Want is so Beatles caliber.

Parachute Woman. Maybe not. :D

Bob Kontak 04-26-2020 02:32 PM

They were a good cover band also. Keith can play so damned well.

The riffing was great...but the lyrics to "Star Star" (I think that was how it was titled) were epic :D

The RS owed London Records one more single on their contract and that was the little ditty that Jagger came up with to fulfill the contract..they then formed their own label..with ABKCO as the distributer

In January 2020 i started listening to the Krause/Plant version of When The Levee Breaks.

If it keeps on rainin the Levee is gona break..
Cryin wont help
And prayin wont do ya no good..

Then a bit later Krause/Plant.. Black Dog.

It didnt take me long
To figure out what down and out really meant

Now starting last month..Jewel's Who.Will Save Your Soul..Woodstock 99 version

Who will save your soul
If you wont save your own..

I would listen to each song over and over again as each touched an emotional cord within me that expressed my feelings about what i knew was going to happen..

It dont matter now baby blue..big or small, young or old you all are fked now..cause the wave is on its way!

While you all was laughin about how high Equities was goin and how swell it all was.. last fall i gots me 3 9's an a Kalashie along with stuff to run through them.

Go to Netflix...watch the documentary on the Stones' 2015 swing through Latin America, culminating in their ground-breaking concert in Cuba. This band's level of connectivity, respect, empathy, and communion with their (Latino) fans has given me a whole new level of admiration and respect for this group.

The Stone's connection to the Caribbean goes way back. Peter Tosh was on their label at one point...RIP.
