Released today by The Stones
They may be in their 70's, but still in tune with the times. "Living in a Ghost Town"..

Very cool. Caught them last summer in Ontario. They’ve still got it!

That’s awesome! Thanks for posting that Ziggy. Should be the album cover.
And possibly the best new Stones tune in 50 years. That was great!

It does just boggle my mind that I have enjoyed listening to the Stones since I was a young kid, and I they are still making music. The Beatles were great, but did not last a decade.

I’m not so sure about that, Glen.
It’s a fool’s errand to compare the Stones to the Beatles. Both will occupy their respective places in history. To quantify their greatness by how long they ‘lasted’ diminishes their contributions. Vincent Van Gogh painted for a period of only 10 years and never enjoyed one minute of respect during his entire lifetime, having sold only one painting to someone who pitied him. One of his paintings was found patching a hole in the side of a barn. Picasso worked continuously for almost 90 years, his entire life pretty much, and was revered throughout most of that time so much so that late in life he could not sign documents, like personal checks, because the document came to be valued more for his signature than it’s intended purpose. Who was ‘greater’? There’s no meaningful comparison. |

The Beatles changed the world. Not sure you can say the same for the Stones.

I was not comparing the "greatness" just the longevity. Literally hundreds if not thousands of other bands and musicians have come and gone, many with great music. The Stones just keep on making music. I love most of the Beatles music. (Never cared for Revolution #9) and the Beatles changed music more than any other group. But they were just a "flash in the pan" compared to the Stones.
Now McCartney has been around as long as the Stones, and he can sell out huge concerts. If I could spend some time with a rock star, I would pick McCartney over Jagger if someone was granting wishes. And I would hang a good copy of most of Van Gogh's work in my house. But 99% of Picasso is total crap to my eyes and I would not hang an original of his, so comparisons are hard I agree. How many other bands or musicians of any genre have been around since the early 1960s, and can STILL sell out a tour, (and still go on tour!) at every venue? McCartney can, but he was not a solo act in the 1960s.

Funny how this thread evolved. To me it's not an either-or thing. I like both groups.
This song and it's video sure fits the current time.

It is NOT either or. Heck I like both types of music Rock and Roll. ![]() Bottom line for what I was really trying to say is how many other bands from the early 1960s release a song that is worth listening to, and something about the mess the world is in right now. The new song is not likely to win an big awards or go to number one on the charts, but I bet it makes more money that most of us will this year.

Yessir.
To have a band come up with a meaningful, contemporary hit in its 6th decade of superstardom is truly remarkable. Did the Stones write this song? |

The band fast-tracked releasing the song due to its relevance to social distancing as a method to control the spread of COVID-19.[3] Jagger changed some of the lyrics to refer to the pandemic.[6] |
