Need a recommendation - Home Office Printer

I'm tired of getting ass raped by HP for ink cartridges. Their own brand name black cartridge (allegedly a 200 page yield) in a Photosmart D110 used purely for printing a few items for work, kids homework, and some around the house stuff gets me maybe, 50-60 pages at it's most efficient setting. At that rate I can go print at Kinko's for less.

The combination of crappy UI, integration, and op-ex is pissing me off. I'd take one or two of those but not all 3. HP is reminding of Sears these days.

Any recommendations? I don't mind even going up to a color laser if the cost is right, I've been all over looking at cost/page comparisons on printers and would prefer to avoid HP.

Small office/home office use case.

Try a Brother. Most monochrome Brother laser printers are around $100 or less and the toner and drums can be purchased off Amazon for around $10 - $50 with 2,500 page yield (depending on the model you choose.)

I have the HL-2040 and usually print 200-500 pages a month. Has been good for the last 4-5 years. Toner is around $15 for the high yield on Amazon and drum was around $25.

We've had our HP LaserJet scanner/printer/copier/fax for 8 years. I'm on my third toner cartridge. It has been a great unit and far cheaper than any inkjet I've ever had.

Thanks all...

I looked here also, those are threads that are anywhere from 2.5 to 4 years old. Things change in the tech world rather rapidly.

I'm looking for current info.

+1. This thing is amazing, I picked my first one up for $40 and it lasted me 5 years.
I just bought a slightly better one for $100 (prints from wifi and iphone) and so far so good. Cheapest option by far.

We use Brother B&W laser also, Office and home. Scans PDFs to shared network drive, and print&scan from iPhone.

I've had horrendous experiences with HP - the worst was the one that printed 60 pages before quitting work altogether.

Having success now with an Epson NX420 multifunction.

Edit: this Epson is about 3 years old and still trouble free.

I just bought a Canon MX479 at Wallymart for something like $70. FAX, scan, copy, color, seems OK

we've got an HP Laserjet 2500dn. We bought it refurb several years ago. It's running just fine. It's got an override for when it thinks the cartridges are empty so you can keep printing. I think we're about 1 year out on the printer thinking it's out of black toner and still going strong. Our previous color laserjet also was a very good printer, except that it didn't have the override which meant that when the printer thought a cartridge was empty, we had to buy a new one.

I have Brother mono laser for home and office. We get around 6000 copies per toner cartridge and they are fast, good quality and no muss-no fuss reliable . My next one will be iphone print compatible though.

Ahah, now I'm sure everyone faces this problem. I don’t know why they make such low-quality printers and cartridges. I changed more than 3 printer models and I’m tired of it already. I decided to find another high-quality and reliable printer and I was very lucky that I came across a site mrdepot. These guys just have a huge assortment of cartridges and printers and everyone can find something suitable there. So if you need a high-quality printer, I advise you to contact them because they just have a huge assortment!

I like Epson. I have a workforce printer that's pretty old that I was able to update to print from my iPad and iPhone.

I use a Canon inkjet, not a home office. Aftermarket ebay ink cartridges working fine so far.
Has HP ever been the same after Fiorina ?

at home we use Brother color laser MFPs. Reliable, fairly economical, no nonsense, and can refill the toner cartridges.

I have an old Brother laser. It's much the same as a HP. Being a home printer the cartridges seem to last for years.

When I worked for the bank I used to buy Brother brand laser toner cartridges for the HP printers as they were exactly the same, brand new, and a whole lot cheaper.

I’m in the brother bandwagon. I’ve had a few different ones each of which I handed off to friends and relatives as I needed upgrades. All the old ones are still in service. Super low maintenance.

I ended up with a color laser mfc. (Scanner, printer and fax) duplex printing, on the network so all devices in the house can print to it.
