Not true.
Look up 'Birds of Hawaii'.... Black Crowned Night Heron is listed as common.

Herons are everywhere except maybe Antarctica, many migrate.

I haven't seen it for a couple days, but yes, I'm thinking it is a black crowned night heron. I guess I can't shoot it or throw a rock at it.
