okay, i thought a motorcycle battery was expensive..the tires!!

i just ordered tires.

i called a local motorcycle shop and asked for the exact tires i wanted. i was quoted $665! mounted and balanced.

i felt the need to go out and count the number of tires on my bike. yes, confirmed. i only have two and told the service manager that. he said, "yes, for two".

i told him i had to check with my wife, because that was the truth.

i just ordered from REVZILLA and will beg my coworker to help me with his garage set up. he bought a mounting machine from a shop closing up. he is pretty busy these days, and there is this virus thing...

i also have to deal with inner-tubes. i couldnt believe that quote. my truck cost me $582 out the door for my new Coopers. wow.

BTW, i went with the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires. they look pretty good on paper.

I've gone through $400 tires in 2,000 miles. An extreme example, but part of the deal.

Wow! I got new tires on my bike last November: $85 front, $112 rear not including mounting & balancing, But of course that's just an ordinary sport/touring bike.

That price is crazy!

If it has tubes, I assume it has spoked wheels. You should be able to mount the tires with 3 irons on your garage floor.

Blew through a set of pirelli diablos in one track weekend. About that time I began looking for a cheaper hobby.

DIY tubeless conversion should be pretty straight-forward, if so inclined.

Good Lordy... I go through sets in 5k or so miles and they’re nowhere near that. I think my last set was $350 out the door - front & rear, Metzler 70/30 on/off road semi-knobbies for the GS.

Lots of bicycle tires are pushing $100 each now... tell me how that makes sense.

I also got new tires for the Ducati and they were about $500 mounted etc. I don't remember how much the last tires I put on the Harley.

I HATE putting tires on the dirt bikes (the little 50 is a nightmare), so I do not mind paying.

I do the off road tires, I do not have the skill or tools to properly mount and balance tires on my street motorcycles.

Oh I use that more than the manuals it seems these days for a lot of stuff, but both bikes have alloy wheels and I would be pissed if I nicked them etc.....

It's 955ccs. I got it from a mechanic at a Triumph dealer. He put Daytona cams in it and estimated it was making 135hp. It jams, but I haven't ridden anything for a few years. An old commute of mine was a good bit of twisties on pavement with a lot of grip. That would eat up tires quick. Normally, I'd get 3-4,000 miles. That was on an R1200S.

Tires are pricey for the sporty scoot eh? That evens out because you only have to buy half as many.

One of the things I like about the Miata. I can get 4 of the ickiest stickies for about the price of rubber for your Triumph.

Karmic balance in the universe maintained.

$850 to drop off my Road King and ride away with new front and rear rubber. Fronts might go 25,000 miles, rears 15,000 at best. It takes an automotive level machine to get these thing off of the rims. No way I could do it at home.

I mount my own on my XR650L. Maybe $100 each. But rears only go 3,000 miles at the most, fronts maybe 5,000. On the Ducati, I bring the rims in and get "free" mounting when I do, so maybe $150 each end. Rears go maybe 8,000-10,000 miles, fronts maybe 15,000.

So, yeah - motorcycle tires are expensive. They cost more than car tires by virtue of their short service life and their relatively high cost.

Pfffttt.

Pirelli slicks for the 930 were $1,600 for a track weekend. Maybe 200 miles. 😂

So, do you mount your own car tires? Truck tires?

I'm about as "DIY" as they get. To the point of building my own motors in all of my "toys", transmissions in most, suspensions on all, etc. There is absolutely, literally, not a single part of my 911 I have not held independently in my own two hands. Not one. I could not afford to have all of my toys if I did not take this approach. And, like I said, I do mount some motorcycle tires. There are some, however, that are beyond my abilities in my home shop, and I'm not willing to invest in the equipment to bring them within my abilities. Much like the tires on my various cars and trucks.
