Last year (or so) I bought two new batteries at Costco for my F350. The ones I had in the truck were 100 month warrantee batteries. The new ones were 42 month warrantee batteries. Progress. I have a small (16 hp.) diesel tractor I replaced the battery in some time back. Bought the new one at WM for $120. The one I replaced was about $40 at that time.

Yesterday the battery support/tray was delivered so this morning I installed the bracket then the 2nd battery . All terminals coated in anti corrosion gel . She fired right up so the " how long will they last " clock has started 😁 . Oh I have said it many times but once more won't hurt , the GM specific battery terminals are crapple 😠 . What engineer thought this puny 8mm bolt head/terminal was a great idea ?????

That is odd, isn't it?

Ill bet you get five years easy with the Maxx batteries.

Any known changes in battery quality since 2020?

I just bought two of them. One for my Ford Taurus and my Boxster..

Can't say whether they are any better or any worse than they used to be.

They get the job done for me and an easy purchase experience.

Nope, but there are surely price changes since 2020.
I bought one a couple months ago and was very surprised at the price...of course all brands are up.

Much like tires, no big improvement in quality, but a LARGE price increase. Tires are expensive anymore.

My wife's Macan needed a new battery. I called the dealer just out of curiosity, and they wanted $750 just for the battery. Installation was more. I went to the local Interstate battery place and got a Glass Mat sealed battery with a 4 more amp hours than the original battery. It was $260. The exact same battery I bought for my 85 911.

The battery I talked about in post #17 of this thread finally gave up the ghost. Luckily for me it did it in my own garage!
I replaced it with another Maxx albeit a slightly smaller sized one as the Group 24 was 'hitting' the rad mount and causing it to corrode. The new one is shorter so doesn't have that problem. Not quite as powerful (950 vs 660 CCA's, or something like that) but it gets the job done and is still bigger than the stock one was.

I prefer using the British pronunciation of battery. A valuable tidbit from Wheeler Dealers.

I bought an Antigravity lithium one for the 911 since it has that restart technology where it
saves enough juice even when it’s dead to start the car or at least operate the frunk. A bit pricey so will have to see how it does.

Normally the British try to pronounce every single letter in a word. It is just unusual to me they make skip the second T. Of course the English language is weird in so many ways. Where in the heck did the spelling of Ptomaine /tō′mān″,/ come from with a silent P as the first letter?

Pterodactyls lived 200 million years ago so probably about then.

Never understood the vitriol for Walmart. They employ many thousands of Americans and offer products and prices more palatable to low and mid income families. If it’s that they carry Chinese products…everyone else does too.

Anyway, I like WM and have no aversion to going there.

A basic old school battery is nothing but lead and acid.

Costco offers a full free replacement, not pro-rated battery policy. I just bought 4 golf cart batteries for my RV there. I'll just take them back in a couple years for brand new ones.

Mike - I think it has to do more with their marketing tactics when they move into a town than anything else. Under cutting the competition to the point they can't compete any more and then they up the prices once the competition has gone away.

At a local hardware store they had brand new RV/Marine deep cycle batteries in larger sized Group 27 and 31 sizes. ~130 amp/hr reserve. Fresh Date Stickers same month manufactured and on the shelf.

no mfr labels at all, black box with lead and acid.

they were only $89 each.

I'm friends with the owner and asked what's the deal?

He gets them direct from Interstate Battery, new but remanufactured.

So why pay $400+ for a Trojan (been there done that)

We are not talking AGM or mat type spill proof batteries.

As an electrical engineer, you have Acid, Charged Lead Plates, and a plastic box.

All other things like Amp Hr reserve kept the same, I ask the brain trust:

"is new lead, better than remanufactured remelted old lead"

and

"Does it come down to plate design for freer electron flow and storage?"

Does the energy density change? hmmmmmmm ponder.

sometime I honestly hate being a retired EE engineer...........grins. Watts wrong with that?

I buy AGM 'seconds' from a local warehouse. I have had zero issue, and they are under $100.

The Maxx battery I mentioned in post 17 lasted 7 years. I did remove the caps about two times to add distilled water to the cells, mainly the ones at the ends to bring them up to proper levels during that time. I felt I got my moneys worth out of it.

Did you notice in the video that the WalMart battery said distributed by Johnson Controls, not made by Johnson Controls?
