Cool watching the successful launch in real time.

Bob Kontak 05-30-2020 11:48 AM

Nice. Enjoyed that.

It is phenomenal that we can see be on the vehicle post-liftoff and in the cockpit.

Scott Douglas 05-30-2020 11:51 AM

I agree Paul.
The on-baord camera's really add to the experience.

OK, not the Shuttle but it is manned and we launched it. Yeah baby

Baz 05-30-2020 12:00 PM

My wife and I watched the launch it was very impressive . Camera shots were amazing and the drone ship catching the first stage rocket holy $hit !!!!! Very proud of all the folks involved and hope for the astronauts safe return .

KFC911 05-30-2020 12:39 PM

That was awesome :)!

rusnak 05-30-2020 01:02 PM

Maybe for the next launch they can cut the whoopin an-a hollerin' hillbilly style over in LA. At least mission control looks the part, meaning it looks like a backlot soundstage to Startrek Deep Space Nine. Maybe with those billions they can also spring for some better attire.

stevej37 05-30-2020 01:50 PM

LX year Deja Vu!
Congrats!

sammyg2 05-30-2020 01:51 PM

Looked darn near perfect from where I was sitting.
So much for Lovell's theory of every mission having a glitch. ;)

I'm betting this will give my 4 shares of TSLA a boost

astrochex 05-30-2020 01:57 PM

My only gripe was they did not catch the first stage landing on the drone ship. There were “technical difficulties”, then presto, it had landed.

Watch previous landings of the main engine. Happens most every time.

masraum 05-30-2020 02:12 PM

I've got a buddy that lives in FL. He was convinced that the launch wasn't going to happen. I think he was in Daytona and said it was raining. Fortunately, he was wrong and the launch was spectacular.

The 1st stage or boosters performing a successful vertical landing still excites me like a little kid at Christmas.

Holy carp, two at the same time, side by side? WTF!!?! If I hadn't seen it I'd never have believed it.

The name of the drone ship is "Of Course I Still Love You". Just kills me, along with calling the Astronauts "Bob and Doug" like they're a bad radio morning show team.

It was very cool, I remember when they used to wheel in the TV on the cart for us to watch Apollo launches in grade school.

I am thinking jumpsuits like a Bond villain would use for their minions.

I guess Mr Musk would have to get himself a white cat.

The story is that the blast from the engines causes the signal to be lost. I think because of vibration/movement caused by the blast. Seems to me that the antennas are probably directional and the blast probably knocks them around so much that the signal goes. They probably get the footage after the fact when thi signal comes back, but live streams suffer.

according to the 'Net...

The robotic ships that serve as landing platforms for SpaceX rockets now have names that honor legendary sci-fi author Iain M. Banks.

SpaceX has two operational drone ships and has a third under construction. Just Read the Instructions operated in the Pacific for launches from Vandenberg; Of Course I Still Love You operates in the Atlantic for launches from Cape Canaveral. A Shortfall of Gravitas is under construction.
I also heard one of the talking heads mention that they called the astronauts "the dads" around the place.

Porsche-O-Phile 05-30-2020 03:58 PM

Awesome all around. I love the names of those ships - hilarious! Nice to see some positive news and continuing American innovation and achievement!

Por_sha911 05-30-2020 04:28 PM

Well, my track record for predicting weather today wasn't so swell but I am glad all went well.

That’s nuthin’.

I remember all of us in the living room crowding around the radio to watch them.

rusnak 05-30-2020 04:53 PM

The big achievement of this launch so far is not that it happened. It's that it was done so inexpensively to reach LEO. They used far less money, less time, fewer really smart people, and a much smaller percentage of the country's GDP than in 1961.

Ha! At our house we had a small B&W tv but I usually ended up holding the rabbit ears and standing wherever my father told me too.

JackDidley 05-30-2020 06:06 PM

Was not near a TV all day so I missed the lift off. Sooo glad it went well.

stealthn 05-30-2020 07:39 PM

Got the whole family to watch today, congrats to SpaceX and NASA, the world needed inspiration now. I always get choked up, knowing the risk, effort and tech involved, as well as the human achievement.

So happy it went safely!

pavulon 05-30-2020 11:00 PM

I wonder what Mad Mike Hughes would say.

astrochex 05-31-2020 06:38 AM

She is now docked.

Bob Kontak 05-31-2020 07:56 AM

Almost ready to enter the ISS.

CurtEgerer 05-31-2020 08:41 AM

Love the new casual Friday space suits :D

Porsche-O-Phile 05-31-2020 09:20 AM

Supposedly the crew named the dragon capsule “Endeavor” yesterday. Nice nod to all the ships that have carried that name in the past (including the SS)

All of the gear, capsule, etc definitely have an early 90s iMac Backstreet Boys Star Trek TNG design motif to them. Except for those awful rain boots, what's up with those?

The did name it Endeavor, I saw the announcemnt.

Doug and Bob also flew together on the same SS Endeavor mission.

BTW Doug and Bob are both married to women astronauts that have both flown on Shuttle missions.

tcar 05-31-2020 11:37 AM

Doug hit his head entering the ISS... kept bleeding during the press conference.

Porsche-O-Phile 05-31-2020 11:50 AM

I wish they’d call them “Doug and Bob” or something else... every time I hear them say “Bob and Doug” all I can think of is the McKenzie brothers, lol!

I don't think that degree of casualness is ever going to land as ok with me.

I guess that's what old men do. B##ch about change.

Maybe if they would have called Schwarzkopf "Norm", I'd be better settled with it by now.

I also need to see more rivets on the spacecraft. :)

Still impressed.

Salty Springs 05-31-2020 01:06 PM

We have a place on Cocoa Beach so went there for the launch. My wife and sisters went to the port for lunch. I said lets go out on the causeway and watch from there instead of the beach (It's about ten miles closer with a better view). All the old hens said"I don't want to get in that zoo" I said yes it will be a zoo but it will be an experience. Like the difference between attending a pro football game and watching on tv. I said raise your hand if you want to go. Of course mine was the only one raised (but I"m driving) I said the "ayes" have it,and off we went. What a zoo, cars as far as you could see.Found a little spot by the water and squeezed in and it started to rain. Started clearing to the north and off it went, beautiful. I have seen several shuttle launches and it doesn't compare to the fury of those monsters but still a great launch. Took about 90 minutes to get back to our condo (usually takes about ten minutes) and headed out to the patio with our adult beverages. We here the sound of huge jet coming and here comes Air Force 1 cruising the beach. It was going as low and slow as possible. I'm not a big fan of the passenger on it but just the sight of that plane in the air will send chills down your back.

I hope they have a successful re-entry and safe landing . Apparently the re-entry is what has Elon Musk the most nervous about .

I'm disappointed in Musk for not making the suits shiny silver.
