Facom 440 series wrenches

I know all of us are feeling wrench-deficient these days, so ...

they feel real nice

Facom make great wrenches, first used them years ago when they were official supplier to McLaren

I have a set of ratchet spanners and they are a joy to use

Of course FACOM goes back many decades in motorsports.
They were heavily involved as sponsors and tool suppliers for Matra, Ligier and Renault since the 70s, and later Ferrari too.

My favorite 3/8" ratchet. It's a flex-head. I usually pair it with Stahlwille sockets and Metwrinch wobble extension as the first option. This combo will get into 99% of the jobs that it needs to.

Holy cow, the photo compression on this site is ghastly.

Yeah well, since you chose to use the word "spanner" (let alone "McLaren") you will most likely, at best, be ignored here.

Low hanging, American english speaking only, or move along.

Try editing your post to say "ratchet wrenches"" rather than "spanners", either that or go "all in" and brag about your recent links experience with your niblick.

Only the Queen's English for me

Forgot about Ferrari using Facom but when I was there the official supplier was the Italian manufacturer Beta

Some sockets were custom, the socket pictured is an evolution of the very 1st F1 wheel gun 'smart socket' I designed. It was machined from titanium for lightness, had a built in strain gauge which counted the impacts to illuminate a green light on the gun to let the mechanic know the wheel nut has been tightened

Facom made a bespoke titanium car tool kit for the McLaren F1 but you needed a guy in a van following with a giant torque wrench and spare wheel if you needed to fix a flat

I wonder if any owner ever has even once actually used any of those tools to fix the F1 on the side of the road. I would guess, NO. Cool set that cost almost as much as a new set of Porsche tools for my 85 911.

back to the 440 wrench...

it has double concavities on the handle - concave in the center, and at 90o to that concave at the ends of the handle near the wrenching fixtures

naturally, I did a wt. comparison...

the 15mm combo Facom 440 is only 100 g

but a smaller Snap-Off (14mm, OEXM14) which is also 35mm shorter in length weighs 90 g.

so... much lighter (not that it matters)

and... it has big numbers on it - I can actually read the 15 on it

Hard to picture. Sorry. Sad because I wonder about these things.

They do look pretty sweet.

One of my older socket sets, with locking ratchet drive and locking extensions.
The ratchets are 72-tooth, with 17 teeth engaged.
