MY 1960 MGA Restomod
Sharing one of my non-Porsche projects. Larger 1.8L MGB engine. Ford Sierra 5 speed. Lemans styling. Aluminum floors. 4 point harnesses. Lots of ideas thrown in. You don't see a lot of MGA's with the outlaw ethic, but they are easy to work on, and lots of good parts suppliers for relatively cheap!

Wow!
|
That's damn nice!! Kudos
|
Me Want !
Now, that REALLY appeals to my "need for speed", especially in cars a couple of generations old! Many years ago I had an MGA coupe for a few years and enjoyed the heck out of it! It was a junker compared to your car but still lots of fun to drive. If you ever decide to get rid of it, keep me in mind!

Whew that is so nice! I've always liked the A. Great lines.
Your touches just make it that much nicer, well done Chuck! I also had one back in the day, drove it from Fla to Seattle Washington. Cheers Richard |
I really dig this thing. I have an MGB with a Rover V8 and it's comfortably in the space of favorite car to drive, and parts are basically free compared to an air-cooled 911.
Is it dumb to wonder how hard it might be to get a Rover V8 or GM V6 in one of these things...? What did the MGB engine take? |
Damn, that's pretty! You sent me back to a time of creating fond memories.
|
I came across one at the Pamona swap meet once that had a Buick nailhead V8 in it
Frenched tail lights etc Not nearly as nice as this one,. but I Would have loved to take it home with me. Cheers Richard |
they'll get tired of the 4 point in a hurry. nice car otherwise.
also be ready for the radiator to crack over the first decent bump. |
wonderful.
but pan out with the photo. your garage looks extraordinary!! let's see it? |
Lovely!
|
That is Really nice!!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat.gif That was my very first car I bought in 1970 for $100;) Love it!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

Great car(s)! Can you show us more of that new garage?! It looks almost as good as the cars. What are the specs?
|
Thanks for posting, Chuck.
I recall that the 1.8 swap was a popular one for the A. My late wife had a B for many years; great memories. |

That is pretty. Nice toy!
|
Didn't spare any tire tread. And I think a better camera lens would really do that car some justice. Somehow it's even nicer than it looks.
|
That is REALLY cool! I'm interested in seeing more of it, and your shop.
|
Stunning work! Really beautifully done.

Thanks for the nice comments. Here are a few more car and garage shots and some art shots - still just me in a hurry before rain with an ipone. Yes, the MGB swap is very simple. The PO actually installed it, but there is not much to it. The car was mechanically nice, but cosmetically awful. The garage is pretty sparse on the inside as I actually work on my cars and get it dirty. Its about 42' x 26'. Best feature are the Luxe garage doors and the side mounted lifters - nicer than I expected. Had to build a culvert across creek to get to this part of my property, so we are still working on landscaping.

Wow that is beautiful. Thanks for posting.
|
I have a boner.
You have captured so very well exactly what I love about cars. And with one of my most favorite cars as well. WELL DONE!!! I am impressed and inspired. |
That is a gorgeous restomod. Seriously stunning.
|
Nice shop ! Love those garage doors, they let in so much light.
Great touches on the car the hood louvers, that racy swoop back headrest ( not sure what that is called ). Cool cutdown windshield, I like it all. Cool other projects in the shop too. I hope you will post up about those 911 projects as they come along too. Cheers Richard |
I like everything about it. And particularly the paintwork.
|
Yeah, great color, neato fairing behind the driver's seat.
Why would the radiator crack at the first bump in the road? |
Quote:
And yes, I’ve had two crack. I’m not the only one I know of either. Ron Davis makes ones that are both prettier and less ... fragile. |
The side shot is quite beautiful.
Looks like a blast to drive. |
Wow........then, saw your garage / shop, double Wow!

Terrific job on your MGA...it looks amazing!!
I'm a big fan of MGA's...I have 3. One is a rusty POS future project, One is my vintage race car ... It's a 1957 Sebring 12 hour class winner http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1591230032.jpg The third is my daily summer driver. It's rough on the outside, but mechanically sound...MGB motor with big flat top pistons, big valves, big SU's, lots of head work, Prather cam, header, 4 piston calipers up front, and lots of suspension upgrades. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1591230320.jpg Are you still able to access your trunk, er, boot with that rear fairing? I friend of mine built a similar 'A and was able to independently hinge the fairing so you could still get in the trunk. |
I would kill for the Sebring!! If ever selling......
I can open the trunk in about a minute. Thanks! |

I'll let you know!! Chasing the '62 Sebring Twin Cam coupe at Watkin's Glen a few years ago http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1591231972.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1591231972.jpg There was a number of Sebring MG's present that year. |
No doubt this is a very good looking car. GLWS. The fin and LeMans gas filler are nice touches. I brought a red 1961 MGA roadster back from Morocco in 1960 and drove it for almost a year before selling it to help fund my return to college. After graduate school in 1966, I moved back to NJ and ran across a very nice red 1962 “MK II Competition” roadster for sale on a Chrysler dealer’s used car lot. I initially had no idea it was rare model when I bought it and I competed very successfully in times trials/gymkhanas for many years until a “project’ 1961 E-Type roadster replaced it. The 4-wheel Dunlop disk brakes from the XK150 Jaguar really stopped the car well and the pin-drive knock-off rims from the twin-cam were distinctive. I had the car repainted once and did some minor other work but the 1622 engine was always strong and reliable. I even found a twin-cam engine sitting in a regular MGA at a local junk yard and bought it, thinking I’d put it in my car. When the E-Type came along, I sold the TC engine and car separately. It will always be a classic…and desirable. Great memories of a great car!

Thank you so much for sharing! You're garage is top notch. I'm a big fan of the glass doors. and dig the 'high-bay'.
|
Great pics of a really nice car. Great paint and leather. Thanks for posting.
|
Wow--amazing car! Perfect color.
|
Cool little car! For anyone accustomed to the P-tax, as your garage indicates you are, I expect it was built for a relative song.

Beautiful piece of machinery in my favorite color. I like the idea of improving OEM....let the purists scream if they want, but its better now !
