Ken Miles Superformance Ford GT40 from Ford v Ferrari for sale!

You read that right. If you need a refresh, trailer is below:

For those that still have this film fresh in their minds, here are the details.

Quote:
The Superformance Ford GT40 you see here is a 1966 MkII model, it was built from scratch by the team at Superformance in Irvine, California.

Rich MacDonald of Superperformance reached out to representatives at Fox Studios about the possibility of featuring the cars in the new film. He explained how historically accurate the company’s replicas are, and the filmmakers clearly agreed, as they used two of them with liveries painted to match both the black GT40 driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, as well as the memorable blue/white/red livery used on the Ken Miles and Denny Hulme car.

Unlike the original car however, this one is now fitted with a prodigious Roush 427IR V8 stroked out to 511 cu. in., now producing 604 hp and 572 ft lbs of torque. Looking inside the car it’s clear that Superformance went to great lengths to ensure that every detail was tended to in order to make it as authentic as possible, the toggle switches and screws, the interior materials, and the other small details are exemplary.
It's estimated to sell for around $275,000 - $325,000 come January. See the auction listing here. What do you think it'll auction for and would you buy it if you could?

The movie provenance is cool, and I like that it’s a recreation of the original vs a typical GT40 kit car. Would I buy it for $300k? Nope!

Same here. That car be duplicated for a third of that estimate. Is it worth the huge $$$$ to say it was in a movie? not to me. If it were actually raced by Miles or driven by Shelby ....
For that money I'd rather buy a real ford GT*

*That might be a stretch but they are out there.
The $500k+ GTs we see on barrett jackson have like 6 miles on em.

If

Would if I could, if I had the $$, if I had a place to store it, if I had the b**ls to drive it,
If this, if that, sure I'd pay that for it. Just sayin'. If I could get snow tires for it, if my wife would OK it (she would), If I didn't have a fatal heart attack when my cheque bounced. Beautiful cars those GT40's

Ahh, as to that cheque, it would be worse if it cleared, now that I think about it.

I believe I saw this car at a Christmas Supercar Sunday. I suppose if you can't afford a real GT40 and you're a stickler for period correct details, this is a great way to go. Unfortunately my bank account doesn't agree.

If all the switches, gauges, fuel tank, lights, wheels, etc were true to function, then Hell yes.

I'd rather have the Ferrari replica, but that's just me...

I would take a Beck 904 over one of those every time.

My issue is, I could walk into superformance today and have them build an exact copy of that car down to the tiniest details, for about a third of what that is projected to sell for.
the only difference would be that it was not the same copy that was filmed in the movie, it would be a copy of a copy.

So the only real extra value would be attributed to the fact that it was in a movie. It can't be claimed to be anything special other than that, because it is not one of one. It can be duplicated by writing a check.
Hense the comment that if it were driven by or raced by someone famous, that would add to the provenance. Otherwise it's a really well-done kit car.

Is it awesome? Yep. Is it cool? Heck ya. I just don't see the provenance tripling the sale price like they are projecting. Maybe if Steve McQueen was in the movie

But then again you never know about a fool and his money ....

100% agree. For that sort of money I would much rather have a New RUF built to my specs, that is faster in every aspect, and I can drive it on the street in air conditioned comfort.

If I had Jay Leno money I would have one of each.

I'd love a GT40 replica, but I don't care if it's from a movie, and it wouldn't have to be 100% accurate per the original (very close or super similar, yes, but I wouldn't care if the brand of gauges was the same or different or the bulbs or the switches)

Just like I'd love to have a 550 replica and some form of Lotus 7 clone/ Caterham 7 iteration.

917 clone, sure, count me in.

I'm going to need a loan from someone like Bezos or Gates too.
