I'm well aware of not being in the demographic car makers aim for. The younger folks love the star trek dashes...fine, they can buy them.

I'm all for keeping your money. I only buy used depreciated cars. But the assertion that all new cars have star trek dashboards is just plain wrong. Look at the photo of the 2017 BMW. pretty dang basic

That 2011 is perfect. I stared at it long time. However, these are unicorn cars relative to the total offering. See the 2020 Camry dash below. Not bad at all but it's different. I would not like that shiet in my face. I choose to like my 81SC dash way better than the new Camry. Am I a curmudgeon? An old bad tempered person? Is that fair?

Steering wheel has buttons.
Analog gauges Center console is basic. Radio is a screen. I'll give you that. Still would not call this Star Trek

Passenger knee pad radius very close to hip/waist radius in this random Star Trek picture

Klingon Battle Cruiser design may have been a better word choice?

What's the ignorant mythology that's pervading curmudgeonly car culture?

If I have a passenger other than my wife, I have to ask them to push the door lock button to lock the door. Most people never think of the door locks and are astonished mine are manual. Most cars doors lock and unlock automatically. The driver's side mirror has a cable and is adjustable with that cable, but no electronics. The passenger side is just 100% manual and works just fine. I agree with Paul, the dash on most new cars are just like a space ship. My wife's Macan is like a space ship compared to either of my cars for the 1980s, but all cars are. There is no way to get all the information to the driver without the complex displays. I have to get out and use a tire pressure gauge to check the tire pressure on my cars. The mandatory back up cameras require a display of some sort.

All the good design ideas were used up in the 1960s to early '70s.
we were then subjected to angular cocaine cowboi stuff and later, the Rise of the Blobmobiles finally the Japanese manfs. tried out the Samurai Helmet Front Ends, which BMW seems to be copying |

Issue solved:
"Also, like the Bullitt, the Mach 1's standard transmission is a six-speed manual, though this one's the Tremec 3160 borrowed from the GT350—not the GT's allegedly fragile Getrag MT-82. That's great news. " https://www.thedrive.com/news/34075/2021-ford-mustang-mach-1-a-more-track-ready-bullitt-with-ample-shelby-parts
