It hasn't always been so bleak for southpaws, Curt. As a matter of fact, the good Col Sam Colt was a leftie himself. Many insist his Single Action Army was designed to suit himself, and other left handers. The location of the loading gate and ejector rod on the right side certainly makes it easier to hold the gun in the left hand to load and unload:

As someone once said "A Glock 19 Gen 3 is ALWAYS the right answer". I'm pretty sure the Gen 5 has some features for left handed shooters but nothing to the extent of ejecting rounds to the left. I think it would be easier to just adapt vs looking for an obscure weapon.
