Alex Zanardi needs your positive energy or prayers
Hit a truck head on with his handcycle while training and has a serious tbi.

Damn! At least this is encouraging:
"According to the Repubblica, Zanardi remained conscious until medical personnel arrived, and was breathing by himself"

The accident that Richard Hammond got into while hitting 300mph in the jet dragster was similar. He was conscious and talking after the accident when he was in the car and they were loading him into the helicopter. Later his brain swelled and he wasn't conscious. He recovered. Hopefully Zanardi is similar.

Damn shame, Alex is one of my all time favorite race drivers. And favorite people for his remarkable recovery and life after his big wreck in Germany.
An amazingly strong competitor and joyful man! I've read that he has survived the first surgery. If anyone has what it takes to get thru this accident successfully, it's Alex Zanardi. Wishing all the best to Alex in this. Cheers Richard |

According to online reports out of Italy Alex made it through the surgery and is in serious condition but stable . Hopefully a first step forward on a long recovery .

I hope he recovers. However, that's just stupid to no end. I hope he has the chance to figure out that handling (propulsion) and steering don't go hand in hand when on one of those.

Best wishes to Zanardi for sure. Why the heck was traffic allowed on that part of the race course?

Best piece I've seen on the accident itself. Alex rolled in to the oncoming lane on a non technical descent. Who knows what caused this...something may well have caught in the spokes-happens on bicycles and is always tragic. Not uncommon in amateur events to have partial road closures.
