UPS Louisville
MD11 went down. From a video at the scene, looks like left engine was on fire in a major way, never gained much altitude, and went down in a crowded area near the airport. Prayers for all....

Looks very bad. Very surprised if there is not significant casualties on the ground.

Looks really bad. My oldest son's best friend flies UPS out of Louisville, thankfully it wasn't him.
Prayers for all affected, I hate to see these things happen. That thing would have had a lot of fuel on board.

Looks like the left engine came apart in a big way and is lying in the grass alongside the runway.

Wow. I don’t see how the crew survived.
I saw a video, where it looked like the left wing or engine was on fire at takeoff |

They didn't. Multiple injuries on the ground as well.
That looked like an uncontained hot stage explosion.

Looks like it came down on one wing first, impacted a building and then cartwheeled.

The building, ironically, was UPS's Louisville freight facility. Hope all inside ok.

Even with something like a catastrophic rotor burst incident, you have to show via test that the fan blades do not penetrate the engine housing. That appears to be the majority of the engine departed from the aircraft before the primary crash. No idea how that happens.

![]() From my hotel window. Apparently, had it taken off in the other direction I would have been hit. A very chilling moment, and my thoughts are with families of any impacted.

Sadly the captain and I were in the same newhire class in 2001. He was a Pelican and vintage 911 owner. More importantly he was a father, husband, friend, veteran. Fate is the Hunter... RIP
