Caught (on Vid) a driveway thief last night

The guy got away but not until he posed for the camera.

This morning as I was leaving for work, I noticed one of my yard lights was pulled out of the ground and there were a couple pieces of clothing on the end of my driveway. I checked the cameras and below is the guy stealing my leaf blower.

I have a very private driveway as it is behind my house and there is a private one-way alley. I rarely get anyone in the alley and I think it gives me a false sense of security. I recently put in a block wall but I have not yet finished the gate - I guess this is my motivation to get busy.

My camera system will alert me but I don't have that feature setup as I think it may get triggered by cats, racoons, etc.. I guess this is the time to try that out.

This was at 1:30 am 07-07-2020:

Email the pics/vids to your local news stations. They typically love "crooks caught on tape" content.

What else could it be but the cloth of anonymity.

Those are really clear pictures.

If it were me....I'd go straight to social media.

Nextdoor and Facebook for starters.

Yes, the camera system is 4k and produced nearly crystal clear video. These are just snapshots from the video and towards the end of the clip, he is walking off with my leaf blower & something else that I can't yet identify.

Hey, I didn't notice those chairs under the umbrella. Could you hold off putting up the gate a few more days?

Nice place.
"Mission accomplished. That was easy." He will be back for more.

Put his picture next to a light at the entrance with a warning for neighbors.
Fishing line and tin cans.

Leaf blower is probably on Craigslist already.

These night gremlins are predictable creatures of opportunity. They are out between midnight and 4am looking for easy pickings they can walk off with. They used to get into my truck and take tools until I put up a security gate, motion sensor lighting, and 2 big dogs. The cops around here have no interest in petty theft after the fact and will take the report but not follow up at all. A nice clear pic is good, catching him in a game snare is better.

Easy to spot what else he took, your truck is missing from the last photo

Good idea. Police once told me that most thefts of this type are done by someone living nearby...maybe right in your own neighborhood. The dumbass had to know that you had some stuff worth grabbing...maybe even heard or saw you using the blower recently. Your stuff will probably show up on Craigslist or at the local fleamarket pretty soon.

Is the lighting actually that bright when the camera records? If so, this chump was pretty ballsy...and pretty stupid...not to be scared off by it. Unfortunately, the police won't be able to do anything about it. Thanks to Prop 47 here in CA, junkies and other lowlifes are pretty much free to steal anything that's not nailed down...as long as it's worth less than $1K.

Yes, those are extremely clear pics. I remember when the banks would post photos of robbery suspects near the teller lines. These bank security shots were so blurry that you wouldn't recognize any of these perps even if they were standing right next to you. Satellites could've probably taken better pics from space!
