Removing old water placed decals

i want to remove some old style water applied decals on my road bike frame and replace them with new decals. Does anybody have a method that will do so without screwing the finish on my frame?
Everything on Google is about vinyl decals and not the old school style acetate or whatever they are.

Mike,

They make these 4" or so rubber or wax wheels with a shaft that can be placed in a drill. I used the wax wheel in removing old decals on my boat and it worked great. Just do a search for decal removing tool or something similar. They should work on your bike, I think...

Purell hand sanitizer. Let it sit for a few minutes, might take a few applications.

I've also used Ronsonol lighter fluid brushed on, let sit and use painter's tape to lift the decal.

I thought they always shot clear coat over the water decals like that.

I am thinking the same thing from our bicycle experience.

Not in this case. I applied them after having Proteus paint the frame many years ago.

You lucky dog! I'd try the purell/ronsonol tricks.

Kind of got me wondering, how to remove if it did have clear. Perhaps 1200 grit wetsand or other fine grit on a flat piece of wood or something to just hit the high spots of the sticker? Hopefully once through the clear, the sticker would go quick before going through the base paint.

I dunno.

Dicey!!!!
