Is it me or are Americans More Obese than Ever?

Ok, so I'll say it. Americans are just plain obese. Not 'fat', not 'pudgy'.......obese. I mean these days I'm almost surprised when I go somewhere and see my fellow man or woman in decent shape. I don't care where I go around these parts, rare occurrence. Like seeing a beautiful spotted owl in the desert.

Speaking of women and being sexist, Anyone under the age of 50, in shape automatically gets a '5' right off the bat in my passing man- observation. If they are dressed halfway decent easily another point and a half.

Seems that women especially are embracing obesity by wearing clothes that only enhance their ......'physic'. Like attire that's easily 2- 3 sizes too small so as to display more rolls than a bakery showcase.

Men too. Anyone bought a tee shirt lately? They're all extra long now. So on me it looks like my waist is too high or legs too short or both. Why? Gotta have enough material to cover the gut apparently.

Not just Americans :(

The new average size around here is a WAY lot bigger than when I was a teen.

What I don't like is this fat arse thing. It seems the fatter a chick's arse is the more she wants to show it off

Hey!....a lot of guys love the fat arse! (not me):)

It seems to economically related. People who have some reasonable financial status either take the time and money to stay in shape or, they try to hide it with better clothing. As a rule, the lower income obese just don't seem to care what they look like. Maybe they are wearing "2 sizes too small" because the clothes fit them when they bought it and can't afford to get new clothes? Unfortunately, my state of TN seems to really have the worst stats for obesity (and prescription drug abuse).
"Sa-lute!"

It's a huge and growing problem in the US (pun). Currently 42% of the US population are clinically obese. https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html

Physical fitness is a lost art it seems.

wdfifteen 07-15-2020 12:55 PM

I don’t know, how obese are you?

asphaltgambler 07-15-2020 12:55 PM

I believe it^^^ around here starting with the kids........

Low rise jeans, a throw back to the 70’s on women, rarer yet for those 20/30 somethings that don’t already have a muffin top

asphaltgambler 07-15-2020 01:00 PM

I’m 5-11, 202lbs on an 60 year old V shaped frame sir...

I used to always watch Top Gear and hear Clarkson joke about the fat Americans. Then I started going to the UK for work and everybody there was fat too!

I live in the part of Houston where I still see obese folks, but I see plenty of young, fit people too. Houston has a decent mix. 20 years ago, I was in San Antonio traveling for work, and I swear, I only saw 3 thin people besides myself and the guy that was traveling with me. A hot young German girl working at the hotel that we stayed in and then I saw the other two in the airport. I assume they were getting out of there for thinner climes or just got there looking forward to some beans and rice and donuts.

5'10" here and average 150 lbs most days.
If I pick-up a few lbs due to inactivity or over-eating...I feel it in my feet, first thing in the am.

Bill Douglas 07-15-2020 01:39 PM

No photo's on this thread pleaseeeeee.

Wonder if Europe can identify us simply by our shape these days vs the tourist clothes of the past

JackDidley 07-15-2020 01:56 PM

Slowbese is the normal around here. Takes forever to get down the aisle at the supermarket. I think its the thing where if the kid is making noise they give it food to shut it up.

cabmandone 07-15-2020 02:22 PM

The "body positive" movement has definitely had a negative effect.

Check what you're eating and see if you can cut down on your sugar intake. I have sore feet and or hands if I get more sugar. If I cut the sugar way down, the morning discomfort goes away.

RWebb 07-15-2020 02:40 PM

are you eating granulated sugar with your feet?
