The U Boats in the trailer look like the "Type VII".
"Type VII U-boats were the most common type of German World War II U-boat. 703 boats were built by the end of the war." ![]() https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_VII_submarine

The battle of the Atlantic. So many lives lost just getting to the theatre. Too few escorts, it wasn't until late '43 aircraft could cover the mid Atlantic area. Did you know Iceland was an occupied country during the war? The Allies needed to build an airbase. That's how Iceland ended up with Keflavik airport.
I have known a couple of men who spent time on the Atlantic in those years. The ocean is deadly enough without someone shooting at you. Best Les

I'll def see it at the theater..a movie like that needs the big screen.
Yeah, I can't think of any movie that Tom Hanks has been in, that wasn't good. I remember watching every episode of 'Bosom Buddies' (of course Donna Dixon had a lot to with that!)

I hope the movie can even approximate the truth, which is not well known. https://www.britannica.com/event/Battle-of-the-Atlantic

Sorry to see hanks in it (after seeing his reaction to Hollywood being called out by Gervais) but will likely watch it.

So this confirms the fact that you should never embark on any voyage via any means of transportation with Tom Hanks?
I will most likely see this movie in the theater.

The title of this thread had me thinking it was another Tom Hanks transportation disaster like Cast Away, Sully, or Captain Phillips, just this time on a Greyhound bus.

Had to inwardly chuckle at the likely airport scene...people wondering who the hell this old man is to have the jet land for him...

Hanks has done a lot for vets. But if he made a frowny face once, well to hell with him.

Interesting view of the War in the Atlantic against the U-Boats. They overdid the art on the conning towers but that's Hollywood for you. An interesting movie to watch after this would be Das Boot, likely a more accurate historic representation from the German perspective.

One of the most riveting movies ever made.
Even without the depth charges, etc., I am either equipped for, nor could I, do the underwater thing. When I was testing the MK-50 Steam Torpedo at AUTEC (https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Home/Warfare-Centers/NUWC-Newport/What-We-Do/Detachments/AUTEC/) in the late 80's, we briefed the Sub Folks at Kings Bay and then worked with them at AUTEC. We actually tested a whole bunch of ASW sensors and weapons there against the real thing. The Captain of the Boat that helped in the testing offered me a day aboard, which, to my chagrin, I accepted. I learned a lot in those 24 hours: How capable our submarines are, how well staffed and capable our sub force is (especially the enlisted men) and just how badly I wanted off the Boat as soon as I got on. The Battle of the Atlantic is a quite remarkable, long running fight.

Hanks has been in a lot of movies, but the one I remember the most (aside from Forrest Gump) is one that never got much attention. Great acting by him...a little corny in spots, but otherwise a fun feel/good movie. A Spielberg movie.

Still fighting the Germans, I see. After the war we were fighting to keep them for ourselves.
Shipping Munitions On December 10th, 1915, seven months after the Lusitania was sunk, the New York Times announced that the White Star Liner Adriatic had left New York carrying 18,000 tons of war munitions for the Allies. Among the cargo items listed were 5,973 “empty” shells (NON EXPLOSIVE of course).
