Mid 1970s to late 1970s period Porsche pictures

Requesting any pictures taken from personal collections from the 70s of porsche, their owners, any pictures depicting these cars in the 1970s, 930s would be great as well.

1970 is now 50 years ago. One half century.

I feel in the coming years the 70s are going to fascinate pop culture just as much if not more than the 60s.

The Vietnam war was still going. There was still plenty of free love up until the end of disco going around throughout california.

There were many many many amazing albums produced from 1970 to 1979.

How many 30 somethings and down even know what a LP is..

What a totally inspiring and mesmerizing time period in US history.

Thinking of the deference in day to day life from 1970 to 2020 you cannot even compare. The difference seems to be more like 100 years not 50..

Anyhow pictures set in 1970s SOCAL would be very appreciated.

I think if you told us a little bit about yourself, where you are, what you own, and you'll get a better response.

I agree with your assessment of the 1970 era. I'm a boomer and the 70's were my introduction to adulthood.

I had a relative that was a college professor, taught English and related courses. He once said the turning point in history for that time was the day Kennedy was shot. I was a freshman in college and had been there all of maybe 10 weeks.

Things started to change rapidly at that point. Lots of reasons. Young folks then didn't have the money for 911's. I used to see doctors, architects, and other successful types with a Porsche. Mainstream business suits didn't venture over to the dark side, they drove their luxury liners.

VW's became waaaaayyyy more than popular around then — a new culture.

Here's enough to keep you busy for awhile.

OK, this is not a 930 by any means. But this is me and my 1974 914 2.0 back in 1974.

So certainly mid 1970s, a Porsche and owner.

The car is Olympia Blue, but the photo had faded a lot over the years.

Same car, same owner and driver, me. This was shot right about 1980.

I have a MUCH higher resolution scan of the slide above.

Thanks for the pictures of 1970s Porsche. Those with their owners are greatly appreciated.

Pop culture pictures are welcome to. There was so much going on during this decade. I
Believe this was the decade of second wave feminism. Reproductive rights, Bras, Ect.

Also violent protests started to really turn up.

I have the photos of my 76 930 being unloaded from the plane at the Calgary Airport when it was new as well as some photos of the original owner with the car (I should really give these to his son who is a friend of mine).

One of the airport photos is in Ryan Snodgrass’s Turbo Carrera book.

Glen - what is the story with the second photo with the rear wheel in the air? I didn’t think a 914 did ‘that’... also awesome CB antenna . Definitely early 80’s... breaker... breaker...

The OEM springs were shot. I had stiff Bilstien shocks on the car. There was a little dip in the road right there, and the rear end would compress completely, but the shocks prevented the springs from opening up all the way. If I hit that dip the rear end would hop in the air every-time. I grabbed a buddy, and set up my camera in a spot and asked him to hit the motor drive button as I drove down that road. It is the access road to an interstate.

I have a 16x20 of that photo on my home office wall still today. I always told friends that ask how it happened and I told them the brakes were so good it would just bring up the rear end.

After I got the photo, I replaced the springs, and it would not do it anymore. And the CB radio was a vital need for that era of the horrible 55 MPH speed limit.

Glen, that's a pretty cool pic of you standing next to the car. I must have the same pic of me standing next to my black appearance group '72 1.7 in '73. Last of the chrome bumpers? I don't remember.

I looked about like you at the time, tall and thin but likely with a beard.

Here is one that doesn't fit your geographical criterion, but does show a young Grady Clay:

I think some early 74 914s might have had the chrome bumpers. Mine was delivered on September 13th 1974 and it had the black bumpers.I ordered my 914 in April 74. I knew way more about it than the VW salesmen at the VW-Porsche-Audi dealership. I wanted a 2.0, Olympia Blue, The Appearance package, front and rear anti sway bars, and radio delete, no AC. The factory radio was like 600 bucks and AC was a dealer installed option.

Zeke, that was me at age 19. Just a start of a mustache, no beard, 6 foot and 155 lbs and no signs of grey hair. Now I don't care if my hair has turned grey, but I don't want it to turn loose.

This is my wife in 1973 at Road america. In the background is the Porsche 917 surrounded by fans. They wouldn't let my "girl" sit in that one
