Longslide Pistol - G17L
I’m looking at a new, uh, spoon? Fork? Glock?
Thinking about the 17L. That is the looooong slide competition 9 mm, 6” barrel and slotted slide, otherwise identical to the 17. https://us.glock.com/en/pistols/g17l This will be a range toy. I’ve shot a G19 for about 35 years so, yeah, I like Glocks. Anyone have experience with the 17L or with other long barrel semiautos? What is the advantage of long barrel semiautos? Longer sight base, more velocity, better mechanical accuracy, less felt recoil, wickedly cool look, make me shoot like Chow Yun Fat?

You might want to take a look at a Glock G34 9mm. It has the long slide and is machined to take mounting plates for red dot type sighting devices. I have one that I replaced the rear sight with a peep sight. The rear peep really helps my old eyes get a better focus on the sights and the target!

You beat me to it Fred. I was going to recommend looking at the G34 too. A great gun.

The G17L barrel is longer than the G34/G35 barrels, but (IIRC) about half an inch. The G34/35 were developed because the G17 wouldn’t fit in the “box” used to classify guns in some competitive shooting sports. The G34/35 juuuuust barely fit, and that’s why they have the rounded front end on the slide. The G17L has become an uncommon Glock model, no longer regularly produced, and fewer hop-up parts are available for it. So that’s an argument against the G17L.
