As someone who builds end user solutions this fascinates me.

Interesting how many Bose stereo components are found in cars these days.

And it doesn't matter if someone is in the North Woods of Canada, they always have that "Oooh ooh ooh, Ah ah ah" jungle sound from Tarzan whenever they get scared and lost.

Very interesting. Closing the door on our 84' Carrera sounds very much like on our 993. A satisfying thunk, no click no rattle. Just thunk.

My W212 Mercedes has a very satisfying low frequency thud. Very much the bank vault sound of old. My R230 has frameless doors and isn’t nearly as satisfying, but still better than any modern economy car.

My truck door closes like a truck door and sounds like a truck door. I doubt I'll ever buy anything north of the year 2000.

I hope there is fuse you can pull on the speakers. They have to run off a separate amp somewhere. Then take some cordless blue tooth speakers and put them in the car and use your phone.

Beginning to hate new cars. Fly by wire sucks.

Pretty much every thing in a car that makes noise gets some amount of engineering done for the noise made. I understand that clicks, thunks, things closing and opening, fans running, etc... They all get engineered to sound a certain way. Obviously the amount of time and money spent on the engineering will vary based on the manufacturer and vehicle.

I do remember being impressed when closing the door of my old '88 911.

We have a Subaru Outback company car that sounds like a tin can when you close the door. I think some added glue-on insulation panels from the factory would have cured that, but evidently not an issue for them.

I think a lot of that is the hyper thin sheet metal they use in modern economy cars. I once leaned against a Mitsubishi rental car and left a dent with my hand. I’m fat but not THAT fat. A friend of mine manages a local body shop chain, he said their PDR guys find it harder to pop dents out of German cars, especially older ones, because the steel used is thicker and stronger.

LOL. I was about to post and say that Subaru does not worry about the sound of their doors. Worst new car door noise I've ever heard.

My 1983 944 has a very solid feel to it when I close the door. You can hear the noise from the mechanical latch. My 2019 VW is different - quiet.

Agreed, my 2018 WRX doors seem less solid than the 80 Tercel my dad bought me in high school so I wouldn’t insure the Corvette I bought for myself.

I think Subaru may have a sound engineering team but they all have hearing damage from riding around in Subaru’s...
