Would you still buy a gun or ammo?

If I were in the market, yes....still have my first deer rifle, a Remington model 721 in .257 Roberts caliber. It's a plain Jane tack driver, grouping less than an inch at 100 yards using factory ammo.

I'm just wondering if workmanship will go down if the employees feel they may be losing their jobs.

I would not avoid them strictly because they are in bankruptcy, but I don't really find any of their products appealing. I generally don't buy their ammo.

I needed an inexpensive hunting shotgun about 15 years ago, and was shocked at how poor the quality was on the 870. The furniture did not match up with the body, terrible finish, checkering that was crudely stamped. I ended up with a Beretta Nova, very happy with it.

Remington target ammo is about the same as all brass 9mm. Their 40 grain 22lr is decent as well.

But it's not worth it. $1/round for plinking 9 is horrible, and I'm just not willing to pay that much. I understand that I may or may not ever see .20/round ever again, but I'm damn sure not paying 5x

I have not looked at any of there offerings for the past 20 ears or so, so I can not speak to the quality of the newer stuff. But for the older vintage stuff Remington has been around for some 200 years so it is an unequivocal yes I would buy some of the older stuff. their line has always been a bit more budget minded vs say Winchester.

Winchester did cost cutting in the quality of their arms in 1964 where the quality really fell off the cliff. Most people did not think much of their arms till 1985 when they re instilled quality back into their line. That is why people pointedly say made "pre 64' when they go to sell one of their arms.

My nephew received a rifle as a Christmas gift a few years ago. It is very accurate, but the action from new feels like it has already been neglected in the field for a few years.

They are going Chapter 11, reorganization, not Chapter 7, out of business, like General Motors and Chrysler.

And I apologize for being critical without first saying thanks for the heads up. There may be someone who needs 50 rounds to try out a new gun and it would be worth it to get their feet wet (or needs ammo to pass the CCP test).

As far as 11 versus 7: I have seen employees who feel impending doom at times like this and just don't give a rip about their quality. They are just punching a clock until it is their turn at the chopping block.

Remington really hasn't been "Remington" since DuPont sold them to Clayton, Dubilier, & Rice in 1993. They bled them dry until they sold them to Cerberus Capital Management in 2007, after which their decline was further hastened. They have built nothing but junk since the first transfer of ownership. Both companies were just riding on the momentum of the Remington name, not doing anything whatsoever to maintain, much less improve the product line nor the quality of the product. Maybe whoever buys them out this time will actually give a schitt... One can hope...

Large are readily available around here. Small? those things are non existent.

On topic, a friend of mine just bought a new 870 express and seems to like it. I'd probably buy one if I was in the market.
