I turned my $13 fishing net into a solid $14 fishing net :D

My criteria was simple. Netting had to be rubber/silicon material so hooks don’t snag. Prices were all over the place. There is a 75% markup at the mere mention of the word “kayak”. Or it had a short handle.

I bought a cheap one at Sportsman warehouse. It’s a trout fishing net. Yesterday a bass just stayed out of range. Reaching for it I almost went swimming. Reaching fir the short handle while high-sticking a fish was comical. Thank goodness I can still bend deeply at my waist. Phew!

The short handle was no bueno. Off to the hardware store. JB weld, spray-foam, razor blades, sand paper, PVC stuff. $$$.....later. Tada! I seriously could have just bought another net. But that ended quickly when I sawed off the finger grooves of the handle. The point of no return was right at the beginning.

It was fun! I’m sweating profusely since it’s 102 deg outside. What a waste of spray foam. It took so little. Oh, I totally forgot to shake the can vigorously before spraying. Hope I didn’t screw the pooch.

Now to go relax and hydrate. Let it cure up. Later, I’ll wrap it up with golfers tape or something. I’m not sure the net floats. Duh. I’ll put a pool noodle around the handle.

Pool noodle or some yellow surveyor's twine. I use the twine for hemos, jaw spreaders and pliers on Canadian Fly Ins and in the Boundary Waters.

Very clever solution. That said, I think that it will require extensive testing
