Is this a weird scam?

I ordered a pair of sequential turn signals on eBay to replace the reflectors on the front of my F150 side mirrors.

Paid with PayPal via my cc.

Tracked the package and saw it was sent back due to “addressee unknown “. I checked and the address was correct. The package was returned to the seller.

I notified the seller and he credited my PayPal account.

The next day, the package arrived.

So is this a scam of some kind?

It just sounds like the USPS screwed up. It happens.

I had two different deliveries from USPS screwed up this summer. Both went through a distribution center in Ohio. Both vendors told me the same thing...they have been having lots of trouble with that center since the covid.
They each made it right.

I don't think it's a scam.

No scam. The package arrived late.
I'd let the seller/bank/PayPal know to debit you again for the transaction if the returned credit is set-in-stone and guaranteed by the bank.

“addressee unknown“ might be your name was somehow not entered or filled into the database.
1). For a bigger company, they already have all that automatic .db transfer stuff all worked out already.
They've got buildings full of coders.

2). For a smaller family company starting out, they may have workers manually type in the addresses.
Someone pushed the 'tab' button and did not notice.

I'm guessing it was automatically returned by the USPS...and not screwed up...because there are thousands of daily scams...where stolen credit cards are used to send merchandise to empty/FS addresses.

Credit Card issuers have to be more careful these days...with covid/insurance/bankruptcies/etc... profit margins are tighter...so security triggers are elevated..as they should be.

I bought an LED bulb conversion for a 3 battery Maglite that was too large for the socket although the seller listed on Amazon as fitting many of the flashlights including all 3 and 4 battery models.

The thing is, it was sent from the UK first with Royal Mail and handed to the USPS. Amazon shows to this day that "it's running late," so they seem to think it never got here. That makes the return impossible through Amazon.

I don't know why I ever allow myself to buy from 3rd party sellers which is essentially eBay. And I sure don't use that a lot.

But the idea of 'scam' occurred to me to get rid of a bunch of wrong bulbs. Just don't let tracking happen.

My PayPal hasn’t been credited yet, so I’ll see what happens. If it does get credited, I’ll let them know and pay them again.

Now, I need to figure out how to install them.
