What's wrong with this shrub

Hoping Baz can comment. I have several of these in my yard (not sure of the species) and this one (on right) looks to be dying. At first I thought maybe the irrigation to it had stopped but it's good. Any other suggestions about what might be wrong with it or what to do for it? Thanks.

Seriously - this plant is one that either does great or has issues. I stopped using them in my work just because of the inconsistencies.

Some say the quality of the irrigation water makes a difference. Other say the soil and water relations. Usually not a fungus or insect. Something cultural.

My advice is to stop using them and go with something more 'reliable'.

How old are they and when were they planted?

How old are they and when were they planted?

Would that be a boxwood? I have a few boxwoods look similar to the plants in the picture. A few have a similar discoloration as the one in the photo just not as bad.

There are several in the yard and the all grow and need trimming regularly. They were probably planted about 5 or 6 years ago. The rest are all fine but this one is all shriveled up and dry looking. Nothing I could try to feed it to bring it back?

If I had to guess....I'd say this was water related. You said you checked and irrigation was fine so not sure without knowing more how water relations could have caused this but going forward - yes try a liquid feed and some light pruning. If it is an established shrub, it should have a decent root system enough to allow some level of recovery.

Yank it, and replaced it. Some bushes are just sick from day one. Put in a healthy new bush, and be done with it. You might be able to get that one to look OK with a lot of care, but it might well just die on you. It is not a pet, just a plant. Replace it.

Interesting - we've got Loropetalums in several areas of the yard - and they grow like gangbusters. They are easily propagated by using clippings.
