Which state is most heavly logged?

I would have guessed Oregon, Washington or Michigan. I would have guessed wrong.

Maine is the winner.

I'm guessing that most of what comes out of the south is pine. It's soft, and I think, compared to hardwoods, fast growing.

Maine and the NE is surprising.

I'm guessing Washington cut most of their trees down years ago, and much of the remaining stuff is on private land, parks or protected.

One interesting bit of trivia, Oklahoma has a stand of old growth, virgin forest. It has never been logged.

Every state is makes up the counties in their state. Oklahoma has just 77 counties. Texas went nuts and has 254 counties. Delaware has just three counties.

And just one county in CA, San Bernardino County, is about the same size as West Virginia, while WV has 55 counties. CA has 58 counties. I guess everything is big in Texas, except for their counties.

And I suppose there is a Buford T. Justice in every county.

A question of significance would be which state does the most reforsetation.

In Maine it takes about 60 to 70 years to reach age for harvesting, down south it is probably less than 20 years.

Mostly in the southern states like Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

One reason I love the song Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd is it is just the right length. If it was any longer I would still be in jail I suspect. Back when I was 21 or so I was driving my 914 on a perfect weather day, roof off of course. I was leaving downtown Sylacauga, Alabama just as Freebird started. The slow parts of the song got me out of town, and as the song speeds up, so did I. This was in the bad old days of 55 MPH limits, and it was curvy rural roads anyway. As the song was nearing the end I was going way to fast and having way too much fun.

As the song ended I came over a rise, and saw a dilapidated old gas station that would fit right into the TV show The Andy Griffith Show. I nailed the bakes, pulled in and got a Dr. Pepper from the vending machine.

Just as I took a second sip the Sheriff Buford T. Justice had to be based on pulled into the lot with his sirens and light on. Polished boots, mirrored sunglasses the hat the entire character. He strutted up to me and asked "Boy, have you been driving fast on my roads back there" and I of course finished sucking down my Dr. Pepper and threw it in the trash can. And replied no sir, I have been right here drinking my Dr,. Pepper in the shade.

Evidently some resident in the area that was a ham radio fan called the sheriff and said some fool in a sports car is driving really fast. It must have been someone else, as I would never speed on those roads. I stayed at 55 until I was in the next county.

A question of significance would be which state has the most intact forest ecosystems...
