Wheeler Dealers?

Just watched Wheeler Dealers for the first time this past weekend. Two shows: the 2002 Corvette Z06 and a MR2 Turbo.

While it looks like Mike makes “money” on the cars, the parts seems to be deeply discounted, they have a fully stocked shop with a lift and Ants labor is free.

Other than entertainment, what’s the point of the show? I do like when Ant works on the car and explains what he’s doing. Mike seems like a goober.

Most think the earlier versions with Ed as the mechanic were better.

Edd, not Ed

And the really early versions back when it was filmed in GB in a small shed with no fancy lifts or promotional tools or orange latex gloves were the reason the show even got traction....Just a couple of car guys fixing up interesting cars on the cheap and "turning a profit" (ha ha - Edd worked cheap!) when they sold them at the end...

Ant is a very talented mechanic. He does many complicated fixes. He does a good job of explaining what he is doing. Mike is just the buyer and seller of the cars, and he gets parts and does the leg work. He visited Wayne at Pelican Parts in one episode.
Sometimes they make very little sometimes not too bad. If you have a mechanic that works really cheap. It shows me, don’t try to be a car flipper.

Mike is a Goober for sure.....I liked Edd China as the wrench, but Ant is also doing a good job.....It's just entertainment as their deals don't real pencil out if you add the cost of labor...

Unfortunately I watched it a couple of times and wasn't interested in watching more.

I think Mike plays the "goober," but he's the brains behind the show. Think Lucille Ball. Or maybe Desi is a better analogy.

The first few episodes with Ant sucked. It has gotten much better. Still just entertainment, so dont take it too serious.

I saw that episode where Mike went to Pelican. I thought Wayne is gone from Pelican though.

The premise of the show is that these are all things you could do yourself, thats why they don’t include the labor cost in their budgets.

It was a reasonable premise in the original show but a bit of a stretch in the new show.

Even when Edd was the mechanic, I would watch everything he did just like Ant. When Mike is on the screen, it's time to fast forward, but sometimes, he will go to an interesting small, owner/operator shop for a part refurbish that is compelling (reskinning a leather steering wheel).

I like the show - both with Edd and Ant. Any time I can watch people working on old cars (and not some high-dollar restoration or a bunch of rednecks putting 24s on a lowered pickup truck) I'm happy.

It’s a tv show guys, take it for what it is. Interesting cars, DIY level repairs, and typically some interesting history thrown in. I find it to be good entertainment.

Its a decent shows and features cars that would not necessarily make it into the main stream, for that reason it keeps me drawn. I like Mike, Edd and Ant (and Ant's wife is cute as heck too).

It’s more entertaining than the majority of the reality TV car restoration shows. You might pick up some useful tips, principally the companies that exist in LA repairing things that you probably can’t get repaired in your local town. It also gives you a quick look at cars you might be unfamiliar with that are cheap enough to pick up and play with for a while.

I’d be happy if they changed a few things but they have never called me to ask my opinion.

One of the things I have always enjoyed is some of the weird or rare cars they work on. They will show the drive-train or suspension that is is very unusual from anything I have ever seen. Of course, he always has some clever fix for it. He done some things that are pretty clever.

Ant and Edd are both the type of guys that I wished lived next door, and were good buddies. Replacing the flywheel sensors on my 911 might take just 30 minutes with those guys help and not all dang day and several busted knuckles by myself.

I'm a long time fan of the show and have probably watched every episode, some a couple of times. I enjoy the wrenching part of the show, and both Edd and Ant are great talents. It's unfortunate that Edd has basically fallen off the face of the earth ... hopefully he gets back into something soon. I applaud and share Mike's passion for cars, but, I cringe at the scripted 'wheeling and dealing' part of the program. It's painful to watch, and, I know that it's TV and the deal is done off camera, but if someone came to buy my used car, offered a fraction of my asking, that's where I usually tell them to enjoy their day as they leave empty handed. I've seen a few interviews with Mike and he comes across as an egomaniac.
I also feel the show lost some of it's uniqueness moving to California. Again, business is business but UK version had more appeal IMO.

Enjoy the show and have recorded(ff thru insufferable ads) and watched most episodes. Like many of you, I enjoy the wrench part which I can relate to as a gearhead. Certainly, the Mike excursions to various specialty shops where he "helps" are interesting and a reminder that there are shops that do almost anything and can be found with a bit of effort, including asking here.
Not a fan of the season highlights with out takes shows at all and just delete them. Too corny.

They did a "classic" 82 Supra. That hurt calling it classic. I bought a black performance package in the day
