21 best sports cars from the 60s
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/classic-cars/g22600967/best-1960s-cars/
The list isn't too bad. BMW 2002 Ford GT40 MGB Alfa Guilia Alfa 33 Stradale Aston Martin DB5 Lotus Elan Mini Cooper Toyota 2000GT Jag E-Type Pontiac GTO Ferrari 250 GTO Ferrari 275 GTB Datsun 240Z Corvette Stingray Mazda Cosmo Shelby Cobra Miura Porsche 911 Jensen Interceptor Ford Mustang All in all, not too bad with a decent mix of stuff. But it seems like the 356 could have taken the spot of something on the list, maybe the Interceptor, Cosmo, GTO or Mustang. And what about the TR6 or Sprite? Lotus 7? I don't really know much about the Interceptor or Cosmo. I supposed the GTO is the least "sports car" of the bunch to me. While the mustang is generally known as a pony car, it's probably not far off from what a lot of folks considered at least very sporty.

Isn't the GT40 a race car instead of sports car? The Ferraris on the list also a race car too?

Pontiac GTO - isn't that more of a muscle car?

Jensen Interceptor? Really? Everything I ever read about those was basically piling on to what a POS it was. I'd trade that entry out for the TR6. Many of the others, I can see the merit.
The pure race cars don't belong on that list.

Let me suggest the Mercedes SL 300 gull wing in place of the Pontiac GTO.
It was a milestone car for me, really ignighting my interest. We can refine that list if we put our minds to it. Cheers Richard |

Wow, the best sports cars of the 60's??? It really is a stupid list of cars because they have nothing in common. A MGB compared to a Ferrari GTO. I myself would love a 68 MGB to take on some twisties.

Ugh.............
36 Ferrari GTO's and they are a list brother of the MGB. Interceptor was a pig, full stop. 351 2000GT's? I say honorable mention. No Datsun 2000, the named Porsche killer for legitimate reasons. But they got a Cosmo. SL 300/190? Seriously, not there? 356 is ignored but a Pontiac makes the list? 2 door Chevelle? Anybody. Bueller? Need to take nitro pills, like right now.

Although the 240Z was introduced in 1969, it is a 1970 model. I don't think it should be on the list.

Certainly not one of the best, but I guess still worthy of mention, the Daimler SP250 also know as the Daimler Dart.

Looks more like a list of 21 sports cars from the 60s a writer can remember off the top of his head.

And I know the Min Cooper (the original) is a fun car, and all, but to call it a sports car is stretching the term sports car. It may be sporty and fun, but with 4 functional seats, it just does not fit what my mind thinks of as a sports car. And besides the James Bond flick, no one ever saw a 2000 GT. And they had to make a convertible for the movie, Sean Connery is too big to fit in a standard model.

Indeed. If they are going to include cars of that genre the Porsche 917 should be at the top of the list.
Limited production cars like the Ferrari GTO? Then include the Porsche 356 Carrera 2. Someone said this just looks like a list of cars that the author can remember. I think they're right.

Lotus Elan not sporty? - the Elan is possible the definitive sportscar - the Miata is based on it - they make a period 911 feel like a truck. Maybe you drove a 70s Elite or Eclat but a 60s Elan is simple the essence of sportscar: light weight, quick steering, joyful. Also Faberge fragile

I love lists...they all give us the opportunity to disagree.
