Man rescues his puppy from an alligator!

This is awesome. A Florida man sees an alligator grab his 3 month old puppy and jumps in the water to free the dog! Lucky the alligator wasn't too big!

Holy cow - that was awesome! I'd like to think I would have done the same thing.....friggin' gators!

Thanks for posting, Steve.

I lived near where this took place (Estero) back in the 90's.

Quote:
Richard Wilbanks, 74, was walking his Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Gunner, around the pond near his retirement home in Estero, Florida, when the alligator raced up from the water and grabbed the dog, Wilbanks told CNN. “It came out of the water like a missile,” he said.
This video shows a little bit more:

One more comment.

I see way too many people who have their dog(s) outside but don't pay attention to them. Some just leave them outside while they go do something else.

To each their own, but I ALWAYS have MY eyes on my dog when we are outside. Inside my home too, but it's when they are outdoors more bad things can happen.

Thank goodness this guy was smart enough to be paying attention!

* The alligator was later cited for disobeying social distancing regulations.*

How does one let go of an alligator safely, or do you pound it against a tree until it doesn't move any longer ?

Respect to the guy for having the courage to help his pup.

As far as letting go of an Alligator... Carefully. Right at the end you can see how the guy slowly but surely moved his fingers away from the teeth. We don't see it but moments later he would have let go of the mouth but hung onto the head. Just toss him into the water after that.

FWIW: If they're anything like our Crocodiles I don't think I'd want to share space with Alligators.

Our Crocs watch you and your house from the water and they're patient.

That puppy and owner are very lucky it was a small gator , a bigger one the story would have a sad ending . I am glad this ended well . I lived in Florida for 18 years , you learn very quickly to respect ANY body of water the swamp critters are everywhere !

Our gators are friendly puppies compared to the salt water crocks in Oz. Like any reptile, they are opportunistic feeders. And they don't much care what they eat. Dogs and cats and children are certainly on their menu.

He's got nothing to lose! Probably an old Vietnam vet ready to tangle.

Like the 70 year old former professional wrestler that beat the crap out of the two would be robbers at a Denny's a few years ago.

I'm glad that puppy was saved. That's a really sweet little dog. It will give that man years of companionship, rather than a one-time meal for that gator.
