Is my TV on the way out?

When I turn it on these days there's a black line almost center picture going top to bottom.
It's a Sony KDL-52XBR9.
Here's a picture of the line this morning.
It goes away when it warms up (it's gone now and I took the picture 17 minutes ago).

Yes, and nobody repairs TV's anymore. Although Crutchfield did have a video teardown of the new Sonys.

Is the KDL-52XBR9 around 11-12 years old?

Just get a new Sony 4K 65" XBR-65X900H, or bigger.

I just bought a new Sony XBR-65X950H, but not sure it was worth the $500 difference from the 900H.

I kept waiting for my Panasonic P50-V10 Plasma to die and it never would but I wanted 4K... Before I died...

Interesting video...

As long as it 'corrects' itself, I guess I'll live with it.
Thanks for the video link, that was worth watching.

I'm more concerned about those player shadows

They do look a little weird don't they?
It was a close crop of this picture.

My son recently got a new TCL 75". It has an outstanding picture.

I would probably opt for a smaller one, 65" max.

My Visio has been randomly resetting itself for 3-4 years now. But it won’t die and I’m too cheap to replace it.

Funny this thread comes up. My Vizio has a darker picture in the upper left quarter. You can still see everything but it's darker in that one corner.

About a month or so ago it was the upper right quarter that did the same thing. Then it went away.

I'm not buying a new set unless it gets worse or doesn't go away.

That's very strange Baz, as my Vizio has a dark cloud in the upper right corner! I didn't notice it until my son-in-law pointed it out. Thanks for that.

I hope it goes away, 'cuz it's kind of annoying.

Mine went away. Then showed back up on the other side. I'm riding it out at this point...

Timely!

My 12yo Samsung is getting funky. Should have pulled the trigger 2 weeks ago when I first started shopping. Seems as if the latest round of gaming consoles has also caused quite a few of the tvs on my list to be sold out.

TV's are not lifetime purchases, and probably never were. Technology is changing too fast, and value per dollar is going up - like computers.

This guy seems to know his stuff...

My wife keeps telling me things get old.
Hell, I'm getting old.
I never thought this Sony would wear out, at least not from me watching it. It was rated at something like 20k hours or something ridiculous like that. No way it's been used that much. I only retired what, 7 yrs ago, so it hasn't been on that much. Has it?

I've got a 46" samsung from 2007 or 2008. It won't die.

We have a Samsung plasma from the same timeframe, I think it’s going to outlive me.

We have a Panasonic plasma that is at least 10 years old and is still going strong and an almost 4 year old LG OLED that we are very happy with. Amazing picture.

26" Panasonic Prizm from 1988 in bedroom still has a "good" 480i picture, and it's too darn heavy for me to lift anymore.
